Job Title: Maintenance ManagerJob Description

The Maintenance Manager oversees the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial baking and packaging equipment in a high-volume production environment. This role focuses on both electrical and mechanical systems, including mixers, ovens, chillers, conveyors, vertical baggers, cartoners, and bulk flour systems. The Maintenance Manager ensures equipment reliability through preventative maintenance, accurate documentation, and effective communication across shifts, while actively supporting installation, debugging, and stabilization of new and existing plant equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance on industrial baking and packaging equipment as scheduled to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Diagnose and repair breakdowns on mixers, ovens, chillers, conveyors, packaging equipment, baggers, servo motors, transfer systems, compressors, and related machinery.
  • Utilize volt meters to detect and troubleshoot electrical issues on low voltage and 120–480 VAC equipment, including starters, motors, VFDs, sensors, controllers, and photo-eyes.
  • Read, interpret, and reset HMI panels to identify production line faults and resolve equipment issues promptly.
  • Read and interpret VFDs to detect and correct performance or fault conditions.
  • Tear down machinery and reassemble equipment as needed to perform repairs, upgrades, or component replacements.
  • Work on vertical baggers (Hayssen and Matrix), Tanney and Langdon cartoners, inkjet printers, and associated packaging equipment.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot bulk flour systems, including transfer blowers, air-locks, diverter valves, sifters, and related components.
  • Maintain and repair industrial ovens, proofers, conveyors, dryers, and other baking-related equipment.
  • Fill out daily log reports, emergency breakdown reports, and work orders with clear, accurate documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with incoming shifts to ensure smooth handoffs, share status updates, and coordinate ongoing maintenance activities.
  • Install, debug, and stabilize plant equipment as required, ensuring proper operation and integration into existing systems.
  • Read electrical schematics and blueprints to interpret, diagnose, and troubleshoot electrical issues safely and accurately.
  • Perform repairs and upgrades to machinery and equipment to improve performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Support the installation, analysis, and acceptance of new electro-mechanical equipment within the facility.
  • Repair and calibrate hydraulic and pneumatic assemblies, metal detectors, and scales to maintain accuracy and performance.
  • Test the performance of electro-mechanical assemblies using appropriate test instruments and tools.
  • Fabricate and install safety guards using measuring devices, cutting tools, and welding equipment (stick and TIG).
  • Install electronic parts and hardware using soldering equipment and hand tools, ensuring proper connections and secure mounting.
  • Operate, test, and maintain robotic equipment as part of the automated production and packaging processes.
  • Work on mechanical components such as sprockets, gears, shafts, and bearings to ensure smooth and reliable operation.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot automation systems including sensors and photo-eyes to ensure accurate detection and control.
  • Document all maintenance activities in the maintenance log and other required records in accordance with facility standards and GMP requirements.
Essential Skills
  • 3–5 years of combined electrical and mechanical experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience working on three-phase motors, including troubleshooting, repair, and wiring.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics for 240V and 480V machinery.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical issues using a volt meter and other test instruments.
  • Demonstrated ability to swap, repair, and wire motors for various types of equipment.
  • Hands-on experience working with HMIs, VFDs, and PLCs for troubleshooting and equipment support.
  • Ability to troubleshoot VFDs, HMIs, sensors, and PLCs in a production environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude working with sprockets, gears, shafts, bearings, and other mechanical components.
  • Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics, including troubleshooting and repair of assemblies.
  • Automation experience, including working with sensors and photo-eyes.
  • GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) experience in a production facility.
  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints to diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues.
  • Electrical troubleshooting skills for low voltage and 120–480 VAC equipment, including starters, motors, VFDs, sensors, controllers, and photo-eyes.
  • Ability to install, debug, and stabilize plant equipment and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Capability to repair and calibrate hydraulic and pneumatic assemblies, metal detectors, and scales.
  • Experience using measuring devices, cutting tools, and welding equipment (stick and TIG) for fabrication of guards and components.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • PLC programming and advanced PLC troubleshooting experience.
  • Boiler (steam) maintenance experience in an industrial setting.
  • Stick and TIG welding experience for fabrication and repair tasks.
  • Prior experience in a bakery or food manufacturing environment.
  • HVAC maintenance experience in a production or industrial facility.
  • Experience operating, testing, and maintaining robotic equipment in automated production lines.
  • Ability to install electronic parts and hardware using soldering equipment and hand tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems.
  • Attention to detail in documentation, including daily logs, emergency breakdown reports, and work orders.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with multiple shifts and departments.

Work Environment

This role is based in a multi-building industrial bakery facility where employees work across four buildings and walk outside between locations. The environment is an older plant that can become hot due to baking operations, so comfort working in warm conditions is important. The position offers a first shift schedule from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a third shift schedule that may run from 9:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. or 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., depending on production line assignment. The team works six days per week with a rotating off day, typically totaling at least 48 hours per week, including a structured rotation of work and off days. Sundays worked are paid at double time. Employees will initially wear a t-shirt and jeans, and after 90 days they receive a uniform. The work involves regular interaction with industrial baking, packaging, and bulk handling equipment, along with extensive use of electrical test instruments, welding tools, and mechanical tools in a fast-paced production environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $200000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
