How much do matlab simulink engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 11, 2026, the average yearly pay for matlab simulink engineer in the United States is $96,574.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $83,500.00 and $108,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is the difference between Matlab Simulink Engineer vs Control Systems Engineer?

AspectMatlab Simulink EngineerControl Systems Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Engineering, MATLAB/Simulink proficiencyBachelor's or Master's in Control Engineering, MATLAB/Simulink knowledge often preferred
Work EnvironmentDesigning, modeling, and simulating systems using Simulink in software developmentDeveloping and analyzing control algorithms, often using MATLAB/Simulink for simulation
Industry UsageAutomotive, aerospace, robotics, and electronics industriesManufacturing, automation, aerospace, and process control sectors

While both roles require MATLAB/Simulink skills, a Matlab Simulink Engineer primarily focuses on system modeling and simulation, whereas a Control Systems Engineer emphasizes designing and implementing control algorithms. The roles often overlap, but the former is more software simulation-oriented, and the latter is more control design-oriented.

What is a Matlab Simulink engineer?

A Matlab Simulink Engineer is a professional who specializes in using Matlab and Simulink software to design, model, simulate, and analyze dynamic systems, often in fields like automotive, aerospace, and electronics. They develop models and simulations for control systems, signal processing, and embedded systems development. Their work typically involves translating complex real-world problems into mathematical models, testing these models, and optimizing system performance before implementation. Matlab Simulink Engineers often collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that system designs meet specifications and function reliably.

What are some typical challenges a Matlab Simulink engineer faces when integrating models with embedded systems?

Matlab Simulink Engineers often encounter challenges related to compatibility and optimization when integrating simulation models with embedded systems. Ensuring that models are efficiently translated into real-time code that runs reliably on target hardware can involve debugging timing issues and managing limited computational resources. Close collaboration with hardware engineers and software developers is crucial to align requirements and resolve integration bottlenecks. Additionally, keeping up with evolving toolchains and maintaining thorough documentation are important for successful deployment and maintenance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Matlab Simulink engineer?

To thrive as a Matlab Simulink Engineer, you need strong expertise in control systems, signal processing, and engineering fundamentals, often supported by a degree in electrical, mechanical, or related engineering fields. Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, and related toolboxes, as well as experience with model-based design and simulation, are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills enable effective collaboration and clear documentation of complex models. These abilities are crucial for developing reliable, efficient systems and ensuring successful project outcomes in industries such as automotive and aerospace.

Job description

Embedded Engineer with Matlab and C++

Work location Allen Park, MI LOCAL PREFERRED

Resources will be in office 4 days a week in Dearborn, MI

Skills Required:

Matlab, Coding, C++, Embedded Software, Embedded Systems

· MATLAB – Candidate should demonstrate hands-on experience using MATLAB/Simulink (including Stateflow) to model, design, and simulate embedded control algorithms for BCM features. Example: Building a Simulink state machine to model a vehicle lighting or door control feature, running Model-in-the-Loop (MIL) simulations to validate logic, and using Model Advisor checks to ensure modeling standards compliance before code generation.

· Coding – Candidate should be able to write clean, efficient, and standards-compliant code for embedded automotive applications, including scripting for automation. Example: Developing a Python automation script to parse test logs and auto-generate pass/fail reports, reducing manual validation time during regression testing cycles.

· C++ - Candidate should show proficiency writing and debugging C/C++ code for real-time, resource-constrained embedded targets, including implementing AUTOSAR software components. Example: Implementing a C++ AUTOSAR SWC (Software Component) for a BCM feature (e.g., power window control), integrating it via DaVinci Developer, and validating memory/timing constraints on target hardware.

· Embedded Software – Candidate should demonstrate the full lifecycle of embedded software development — from requirements to implementation to on-target validation — for safety-critical automotive systems. Example: Taking a system-level requirement for a new BCM feature, translating it into a functional spec, implementing the control logic, and validating it through SIL/HIL testing using Vector CANoe before production release.

· Embedded Systems – Candidate should understand the broader hardware-software interaction, real-time constraints, and communication protocols (CAN/LIN) governing embedded automotive systems. Example: Diagnosing a field issue where a BCM module intermittently fails to respond over CAN, performing root cause analysis using CANoe traces and the MULTI debugger, and implementing a fix that accounts for timing/interrupt behavior on the target ECU.

Experience Required:

· Engineer Exp: Prac. In 2 coding lang. or adv. Prac. in 1 lang.

· 6+ years in IT

· 4+ years in development

Education Required:

· Master's Degree
