About the role: The Electric Motor Performance Engineer is responsible for analyze the electromagnetic components of electric motors and its performance. You will be responsible for the modelling and simulation of the electric motor performances using electromagnetic, thermal, control and life models of electric engine components.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Technical
  • Develop and validate computationally efficient electric motor performance models, including electromagnetic, thermal, control, and life models, and integrate them into powertrain and aircraft models.
  • Develop multi-physics, multi-objective optimization packages using tools such as Maxwell 2D/3D, ANSYS Workbench, Motor-CAD, OptiSlang, and Twin Builder.
  • Perform electromagnetic, thermal, and control modeling and analyses.
  • Execute and integrate simulations as part of the specification and development process using models created or supplied by other areas.
  • Perform electrical insulation system assessment for electric engines.
  1. Mentorship
  • Act as a liaison between motor design, power electronics, control and protection, energy storage system, and aircraft installation teams.
  1. Engineering Process
  • Define test campaigns for electric engine performance validation.
  • Contribute to test data processing and test reports.
  • Prepare technical reports and simulation documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of all design files, analysis, and test data in appropriate platforms identified by magniX.
  1. Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Support applications and testing teams using simulation to troubleshoot findings from real hardware.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with the focus on electrical machines and drive systems. A Masterโ€™s or Ph.D. degree is preferred.
  • 7+ yearsโ€™ experience with electromagnetic modelling of electrical machines with 3+ years of aerospace related experience.
  • Expert in developing and validating electric engine performance models.
  • Expert in computational tools and simulation software such as MATLAB, MATLAB Simulink, ANSYS Electronics Desktop, Motor-CAD, OptiSlang, and Twin Builder.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in defining test campaigns for electric engine validation.
  • In-depth knowledge of multi-physics and multi-objective optimization.
  • Highly skilled in conducting electromagnetic and thermal modeling and analyses.
  • Familiarity with electrical insulation system assessment for electric engines.
  • Experience in the aerospace or automotive industry, particularly with electric propulsion systems, is highly desirable.

Location: Applicants must be willing and able to commute to magniX's location in Everett, Washington.
