Job description

Aerospace Modeling & Simulation Engineer, GNC

Huntsville, AL

Who We Are

Aurex is a mission-focused aerospace and defense company building the next frontier of deterrence. From hypersonics and missile defense to hardened networks and orbital systems, we design, test, and deliver the platforms that turn unproven ideas into battlefield-ready capability.

Born in Huntsville and built for speed, Aurex brings together aerospace veterans, combat-tested operators, and forward-leaning technologists to solve problems that matter—fast. We move from whiteboard to warfighter with precision, clarity, and zero tolerance for fluff.

Job Summary

Aurex is seeking an Aerospace Modeling & Simulation Engineer, GNC to support the development and deployment of advanced trajectory simulation tools for missile defense, hypersonic vehicle, and aerospace system applications.

In this role, you will work with a team of engineers and software developers to build, validate, and apply high-fidelity simulations of aerospace vehicles. You will use MATLAB, Simulink, and related tools to develop 3-DOF and 6-DOF models, analyze vehicle performance, support guidance and control algorithm development, and help integrate models into larger modeling and simulation architectures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and run trajectory simulations for missiles, spacecraft, hypersonic vehicles, and other aerospace systems.
  • Build, validate, and maintain 3-DOF and 6-DOF vehicle models using MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Model vehicle dynamics, propulsion, aerodynamics, navigation, guidance, and control behavior using available vehicle data and engineering assumptions.
  • Develop, test, and refine guidance algorithms and control loops.
  • Evaluate model performance and verify accurate implementation against expected system behavior.
  • Conduct trajectory, performance, and trade-space analyses to answer complex engineering and mission questions.
  • Optimize simulation performance for integration into larger modeling and simulation environments.
  • Collaborate with software developers, analysts, and subject matter experts to support mission-focused simulation tool development.
  • Document modeling approaches, assumptions, analysis results, and technical findings.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience in aerospace vehicle modeling, trajectory simulation, GNC analysis, or related modeling and simulation work.
  • Experience developing and running aerospace vehicle trajectory simulations.
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Experience developing guidance algorithms, control loops, or related flight dynamics models.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace vehicle dynamics, propulsion, aerodynamics, navigation, guidance, and controls.
  • Ability to synthesize vehicle data and engineering inputs into usable simulation models.
  • Active Secret or higher security clearance.
  • Ability to work on-site at an Aurex office in Huntsville, AL.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of relevant experience.
  • Master’s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Missile defense, hypersonics, spacecraft, or defense aerospace experience.
  • Experience with trajectory simulation tools such as TAOS, QuickShot, POST2, or similar.
  • Experience developing 3-DOF and 6-DOF simulations.
  • Experience with C, C++, or Python.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink Embedded Coder.
  • Experience organizing software projects and using version control tools such as Git.
  • Experience integrating models or algorithms into larger modeling and simulation architectures.
  • Familiarity with Monte Carlo analysis, sensitivity studies, or performance trade studies.

How You Will Be Rewarded

The salary range for this role is $110,000 - $150,000 annually. We offer a comprehensive total rewards approach to compensation, providing incentives and benefits that extend far beyond the base salary. Compensation is determined by the candidate’s work experience, education, training, and relevant skills.
