What are some common challenges Matlab developers face when integrating Matlab code with other programming environments?

Matlab Developers often encounter challenges when integrating Matlab code with other programming languages or enterprise systems, such as ensuring compatibility, managing data transfer, and optimizing performance. Converting Matlab algorithms into deployable components or integrating with Python, C++, or Java applications can require additional toolboxes or software bridges. Close collaboration with software engineers and clear documentation are essential to streamline this process and maintain code reliability across platforms.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Matlab developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Matlab Developer, you need strong proficiency in Matlab programming, algorithm development, and a solid background in mathematics or engineering, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with toolboxes like Simulink, data analysis packages, and experience with version control systems such as Git are typically required. Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication enhance performance and collaboration within teams. These competencies are vital for efficiently developing, testing, and maintaining robust technical solutions in research and engineering environments.

What is a MATLAB developer?

A MATLAB developer is an expert at using the MATLAB software developed by a company called MathWorks. As a MATLAB developer, your duties vary depending on the needs of your employer or clients. MATLAB is a matrix laboratory that allows you to manipulate matrices, perform numerical analysis, apply algorithms, and create user interfaces. Your responsibilities may include using your programming and coding skills to design a MATLAB application that can interface with programs written in other languages such as C++ or Python. You also perform maintenance and provide support for people who use your applications.

What is the difference between Matlab Developer vs Data Analyst?

AspectMatlab DeveloperData Analyst
Required SkillsMatlab programming, algorithm development, numerical analysisData visualization, statistical analysis, SQL, Excel
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, engineering firms, software developmentBusiness, finance, healthcare, marketing
Common CertificationsMatlab certifications, engineering degreesCertified Analytics Professional, SQL certifications

Matlab Developers focus on developing algorithms and simulations using Matlab, often in engineering or research settings. Data Analysts interpret data to inform business decisions, utilizing tools like Excel and SQL. While both roles require analytical skills, Matlab Developers specialize in technical programming, whereas Data Analysts focus on data interpretation and reporting.

Job description

Canvas was founded by Jami Peyton in 2007 to deliver real-world engineering and technology solutions that strengthen national defense. Since then, we’ve been guided by technical excellence, operational insight, and a shared commitment to the warfighter. Teamwork drives everything we do, enabling close collaboration across programs, customers, and colleagues to solve complex challenges. Our work supports key national security priorities like missile defense, test and evaluation, digital transformation, and warfighter readiness. As an award‑winning company built on integrity, agility, and innovation, Canvas continues to grow and deliver mission‑critical solutions that support the future of national defense.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of system- and subsystem-level requirements for an RF chamber supporting a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) environment that includes a high-density RF array wall and full-motion simulation capabilities.
  • Architect and design the RF chamber layout, including array wall feed networks, signal distribution, shielding, isolation, and integration interfaces.
  • Oversee the complete installation of RF equipment, cabling, interconnects, and support infrastructure within the chamber, ensuring compliance with design intent, safety, and performance requirements.
  • Lead RF hardware integration efforts, including amplifiers, filters, switches, antennas, and array wall elements, into the HITL test environment.
  • Own verification and validation (V&V) planning and execution for the RF chamber and associated simulation subsystems, including performance characterization, path‑loss modeling, noise analysis, and real‑time target/background fidelity assessment.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain RF simulation models (using tools such as HFSS, CST, MATLAB, or equivalent) to support chamber design, array wall performance prediction, and HITL scenario generation.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, supporting sub‑system teams, and software developers to ensure seamless integration of RF components into the overall HITL architecture.
  • Conduct technical performance analysis, troubleshooting, and root‑cause resolution of RF subsystems and simulation environments throughout integration and test phases.
  • Document technical specifications, design decisions, installation procedures, V&V results, and as‑built configurations.
  • Interface directly with customers and internal stakeholders to support RF design reviews, requirements reviews, and technical interchange meetings.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years in RF engineering, with a focus on antenna arrays, RF circuit design, or electromagnetic simulation.
  • Strong grasp of electromagnetic/antenna theory and Radars and RF Signatures.
  • Experience with Antenna Array Walls, RF Test and measurement, RF Circuit Design.
  • Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) testing and RF lab instrumentation (e.g., VNAs, spectrum analyzers).
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • U.S. citizenship with an active TOP SECRET clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Have foundational knowledge of signal processing algorithms to support RF system analysis, test design, and performance optimization in HITL environments.
  • Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, C++, and radar cross‑section modeling.
