ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Literacy and Math Interventionist serves as a targeted academic support specialist, ensuring that every scholar who is at risk or performing below grade level receives the intentional, data-driven instruction needed to accelerate their growth. This role sits at the intersection of relationship and rigor, where precise intervention strategies meet the deep belief that every student can achieve at high levels. In this way, the Interventionist directly advances HOPE's mission of academic excellence by closing gaps and building the foundational skills scholars need to thrive.

Through the design and delivery of small-group and individualized intervention sessions in both literacy and mathematics, the Interventionist ensures that support is not reactive, but proactive and purposeful. Each session, each formative check, and each moment of scaffolded instruction becomes an opportunity to rebuild scholar confidence, deepen conceptual understanding, and restore the joy of learning. This role recognizes that intervention is not a deficit model, but a powerful extension of high-quality classroom instruction.

PRIMARY DUTIES

Literacy Intervention. Design and deliver targeted small-group and one-on-one literacy intervention sessions for scholars performing below grade level in reading. Use evidence-based strategies and structured literacy approaches to develop phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Align intervention content with classroom instruction and curriculum to ensure coherence across learning environments.

Math Intervention. Design and deliver targeted small-group and one-on-one math intervention sessions for scholars performing below grade level. Use evidence-based, high-dosage strategies to address gaps in numeracy, computation, and conceptual understanding. Connect intervention work to grade-level standards and core classroom content to reinforce learning and prevent skill fragmentation.

Data-Driven Instruction & Progress Monitoring. Administer, score, and interpret universal screening and progress monitoring assessments, including FASTBridge and other approved tools. Use data to identify scholars for intervention, group students strategically, set measurable goals, and adjust instructional approaches based on ongoing progress. Maintain accurate intervention logs, session notes, and growth records to inform team-level decision-making.

Collaboration & Instructional Partnership. Partner with classroom teachers, the Chief Academic Officer, and the Educational Assistant Lead to align intervention support with core instructional goals and differentiation strategies. Participate in data team meetings, professional learning communities, and collaborative planning sessions to ensure intervention is integrated into the school's overall academic strategy.

Scholar Relationship & Whole-Child Support. Build affirming, trusting relationships with scholars that foster academic confidence, a growth mindset, and a sense of belonging. Recognize and respond to the social-emotional needs of students receiving intervention, communicating with families and support staff as needed to ensure scholars are holistically supported.

Family Communication & Engagement. Communicate with families regarding scholar progress, intervention goals, and strategies for supporting learning at home. Participate in family conferences, school events, and engagement activities to build strong home-school partnerships in support of scholar growth.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading, Special Education, or a related field is highly preferred. A teaching license or Reading endorsement is preferred, but not required.
  • 35 years of experience working in a school setting, with direct experience providing literacy and/or math intervention strongly preferred.
  • Candidates must be familiar with FASTBridge assessment tools, including progress monitoring, screening protocols, and intervention strategies and solutions.
  • Knowledge of structured literacy principles (e.g., Science of Reading) and evidence-based math intervention frameworks.
  • Experience with EDUClimber, Infinite Campus, or similar data and student information platforms strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data to drive instructional decisions and monitor scholar progress over time.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse student populations, including English Learners and multilingual learners.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to equity, cultural responsiveness, and holistic scholar support.
  • Experience with Hmong language programs, bilingual education, or multilingual learner programming preferred.
  • Ability to partner with and communicate effectively with classroom teachers regarding scholar progress and instructional alignment.
  • Ability to build relationships with families, students, and the broader school community, including through home visits when appropriate.
  • Deep commitment to educational equity, cultural responsiveness, and HOPE's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and community-engagement skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with scholars, families, and staff of diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Duties are performed in a school environment; school building is a multi-level building that has an elevator and is accessible. May involve movement throughout the building to support scholars in classrooms, intervention spaces, common areas, hallways, and offices. Possible exposure to loud environments (e.g., hallways during passing periods, cafeteria, gymnasium). Some evening hours may be required for school events, family engagement activities, and cultural programs.

Note: Nothing in this job description restricts school's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
