JOB SPECIFICATION 

Position: Math Interventionist 

Department/Location: Campus Special Education; Great Hearts Texas DFW and San Antonio 

Reportsto: Special Education Campus Coordinator 

Supervisor: Campus Headmaster 

FLSA STATUS:Exempt; Full-time  

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

TheMathematics Interventionistis a highly qualified teacher of mathematics who: 

  • Provides direct instruction to students identified as eligible for math services in 1:1 and/or small group settings.
  • Develops a student-centered system of intervention that effectively works to close the achievement gap in mathematics.
  • Ensures that students master grade level standards and curriculum
  • Creates a classroom environment and research-based program of study that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of scientifically based mathematics instruction.
  • Uses a variety of manipulatives and hands-on activities to support content standards and meet the needs and capabilities of students
  • Effectively analyzes/uses data and conducts student assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, plan instruction, and assist staff members in learning various assessment techniques.
  • Identifies student needs and data to guide the learning process toward achievement of district’s math content standards.
  • Monitors and assesses student progress on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Understands how to use technology for instructional planning, i.e. creating reports and using data to plan lessons.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects using formal and informal assessment data.
  • Communicates and collaborates with classroom teachers to ensure alignment between classroom instruction and interventions.
  • Completes other duties as assigned 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in math, education, or related field required
  • 3 years of experience teaching students mathematics in a K-12 school setting
  • Texas Teaching Certification
  • Knowledge of Algebra I and Algebra II preferred
  • Campus leadership and/or experience providing coaching/feedback preferred
  • Proven track record of instructing diverse learners, including English Language Learners and Special Education students, in the area of mathematics.
  • Experience and training in administering assessments and analyzing data to drive instruction.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships
  • Detailed-oriented with strong organization and time management skills

Additional Requirements:  

  • Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain valid Texas fingerprint clearance card.
  • Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.
  • Travel required: May need to travel locally to the various academies within the metro area.
