Job description

The Northwest School is an independent day and boarding school.We serve students in grades 6 to 12 on an urban campus in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. The Northwest School seeks an experienced Math Teacher to teach three courses within the Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Precalculus sequence. This is a 10-month .75 FTE position. There is a possibility that we may a need an instructor for an additional section of another course, which would make the position 1.0 FTE.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teach three math courses between Algebra 1 and Precalculus to upper school.
  • Coordinate curricula with other Math teachers and grade level teachers.
  • Plan and participate in a 1-week experience learning course during the year.
  • Participate fully in the life of the school which includes collaborating effectively and collegially with a teaching team, grade-level, and department; engage regularly in formal, ongoing professional development beyond school based in-service; support colleagues and the school by substituting for absent teachers; participate in meetings, committees, and community gatherings; and know, understand, and uphold the mission, philosophy and values of the school. All teachers contribute to the school mission and community with activities such as supporting student SEL, interest groups (clubs), social events, and grade level trips.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the school's mission, values, and philosophy, especially related to diversity, equity, inclusion, environmental sustainability, and global perspective.
  • A bachelor's degree in mathematicsor a related field and a minimum of 2years' experience teaching math to upper school students is required.
  • Candidates must demonstrate an ability to establish an effective learning environment and use a wide range of methods.
  • Knowledge and experience with differentiation to effectively design curricula to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Ability to provide additional outside-of-classroom instruction when necessary for remedial or accelerated work.
  • Ability to assess student progress through a variety of assessment instruments.
  • An ability to work both independently and as a productive member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master's degree and 3+ years of teaching experience is preferred.
  • Ability to TeachAlgebra I-Calculus.
  • Experience Teaching both middle school and upper school students.

Compensation:

Salary range is $60,272 to $109,912 per year (prorated) based on education and years of experience. This is a 0.75 FTE position which is benefits eligible.
