Manufacturing Engineer

Salary Range: $85,000.00 To $100,000.00 Annually

SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Engineer will be directly responsible for increasing productivity and availability of company equipment, supporting operations in a way to ensure a quality product is produced in a timely manner. The Manufacturing Engineer also is responsible for improving existing designs and processes to increase throughput, decrease operational costs and improve quality while promoting the professional competence of the maintenance team through daily activities, training, and support. As well as identifying gaps within the Engineering & Maintenance department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software.
  • Working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to install, monitor, test, and service equipment and systems.
  • Develop technical/engineering data and procedures for Preventive Maintenance Systems, technical manuals, trouble-shooting procedures, drawing updates, operating procedures, and improvements.
  • Direct on-site interface for equipment/system installation, testing, fabrication, and other tasks as needed.
  • Comply with machine documentation standards, maintenance plans, and system specifications per SQF requirements.
  • Provide technical info and evaluation for spare components needed for equipment, and systems consistent with existing/or successor components.
  • Second tier support contact for maintenance technicians regarding Food processing machine issues and is considered the “go to” person for emergency breakdowns as needed.
  • Follows all Company Safety policies and procedures.
  • Comply with established production processes per SQF requirements.
  • Maintain Production Equipment so food processing equipment can produce quality products within the allotted cycle time.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping during and at completion of tasks according to SQF reqs.
  • Participate in supplier training for new and existing systems and equipment.
  • Drives continuous improvement efforts by identification and reduction of inefficiencies within the Engineering & Maintenance Department.
  • Assist in new equipment installation and acceptance phases.
  • Communicates daily any special needs to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Records repairs and adjustments in repair tracking software.
  • Support in training maintenance technicians, operators, and team leaders in the operation and troubleshooting of the lines along with other identified training.
  • Maintain training records as necessary to document training.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
  • Supports Maintenance Manager with all matters.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or related engineering field
  • Experience working with a team preferred.
  • 3+ years related experience
  • Experience with steam cooking systems and sterilization equipment (retorts/autoclaves) desired
  • Robotics, PLC knowledge, and other electromechanical experience a plus.
Computer and Technology Skills

Knowledgeable Microsoft office applications preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. German language speaking skills is another advantage.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and ability to apply concepts such as: fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
