About the Role 

The primary role of a math and science teacher is to deliver classroom instruction that helps students learn. To accomplish this, teachers must prepare effective lessons, grade student work and offer feedback, manage classroom materials, productively navigate the math and science curriculum, and collaborate with other staff.  A math/science teacher reports directly to the Division Head, Assistant Principal, and Principal.

Essential Job Duties 

  • Planning and implementing class lessons that ensure the attainment of state learning standards and the additional specific grade-by-grade learning standards.
  • Strong knowledge of Eureka Mathematics Curriculum and Science Curriculum
  • Upholding the mission and values of Community Academies of New Orleans in all student and family interactions to ensure our commitment is promoting academic excellence and success.
  • Planning and coordinating programs with the faculty and administration.
  • Providing ongoing student evaluation through regularly scheduled grade reporting and parent conferences.
  • Establishing and building great rapport with students to provide a great and exciting learning environment.
  • Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff.
  • Actively participate in strategic long- and short-term planning addressing individual needs of students.
  • Prepare students adequately for all required assessments.
  • Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management.
  • Remain current on ongoing developments and requirements from the Louisiana Department of Education relative to school accountability, assessment, and curriculum.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 75% of the workday while instruction is going forth. 
  • Able to occasionally move about inside the classroom and school building to monitor students productivity, and behavior  daily
  • Occasionally ascend stairs to migrate throughout the workspace
  • Hours: 7:45 am - 3:15 pm Monday - Friday and some weekends


Qualifications 


  • Commitment to providing and outstanding education for the children of New Orleans
  • Willing and able to carry out the mission and model the values of Community Academies of  New Orleans 
  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Two or more years of teaching experience (preferred)
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Willingness to participate in professional development and instructional best practices

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 75% of the workday.
  • Able to occasionally move about inside the office and school building to meetings and other assigned duties  
  • Occasionally ascend stairs to migrate throughout the workspace
