Job description

Position Purpose

The Content Specialist is a key member of the Marketing team responsible for creating, editing, and managing content that promotes SIAM’s brand and initiatives. This role ensures consistency in messaging and style across all communications, supports strategic marketing projects, and helps position SIAM as a global leader in applied mathematics and computational science. The Content Specialist works collaboratively to drive engagement, increase membership, and support revenue-generating activities.


Key Responsibilities

Content Creation, Editing, & Coordination

·        Serve as lead writer and editor for marketing and communications materials.

·        Write, proofread, and edit content for newsletters, blogs, press releases, proposals, reports, emails, and promotional collateral.

·        Ensure adherence to SIAM’s style guide across all written communications.

·        Coordinate cross-departmental print production projects, managing content development, layout, timelines, and production deliverables to ensure accurate and timely mail campaigns.

Publications & Newsletters

·        Manage SIAM’s monthly e-newsletter (Unwrapped), including content collection, editing, graphics creation, formatting, distribution, and performance tracking.

·        Manages Inside SIAM (10 issues annually), including content development, editing, and layout in Adobe InDesign.

·        Update design and templates as needed.

Public Relations

·        Lead SIAM’s PR efforts, including generating topic ideas, drafting and distributing press releases, maintaining media contact lists, and serving as liaison to external PR firms.

·        Manage media database.

·        Position SIAM as a thought leader through strategic media outreach.

Advertising & Promotions

·        Manage SIAM’s paid advertising program, including media kit updates, pricing, invoice processing, and client relationships.

·        Work to expand SIAM’s portfolio of advertising customers.

·        Organize and manage advertising exchange partnerships and annual ad calendars.

·        Collaborate on promotional copy and marketing descriptions.

Special Projects and Responsibilities

·        Coordinate branded merchandise orders and budgets.

·        Creative member of the team who suggests new marketing ideas and angles.

·        Support special marketing initiatives such as the Careers in the Mathematical Sciences brochure.


Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s degree; 5+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or related field.

·        Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

·        Strong organizational and project management abilities.

·        Ability to use data insights to guide content strategy and improve performance.

·        Experience with graphic design and proficiency with design software required; experience with print production preferred.

·        Skills and experience to handle urgent/crisis communications or PR issues effectively.

·        Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Adobe Acrobat required; basic HTML knowledge preferred.

·        Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly; science writing experience a plus.

·        Creative thinker with strategic marketing insight.

·        Team-oriented with ability to work independently.

The pay range for this position is $65,000 to $80,000.
