Job description

Primary Purpose:

Assist the school principal in overall administration of classroom and student management and campus level operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.
 

Qualifications:

      Education/Certification:
            Master's degree
            Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
            Special Education certification or background
            Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
            Thorough understanding of school operations
            Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
            Ability to coordinate campus support operations
            Expertise in classroom and student management
Experience:
            Three years experience as a classroom teacher
 













Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Management

  1. Supervise the development and evaluation of special education and ESL departments.
  2. Primarily responsible for conducting ARDs and being the administrator for LPAC meetings.
  3. Monitoring the progress of all special education and ESL students and develop interventions where appropriate.
  4. Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  5. Promote the use of technology in teaching/learning process.
  6. Coordinate and supervise the implementation of Student Success Initiative services for the campus.
  7. Coordinate the after school intervention programs.
  8. Coordinate, in school wide planning and improvement process (SBDM, Department Meetings).
  9. Manage curriculum services and initiatives such as PLATO, Istation and Think Through Math.
  10. Assist the principal in designing and maintaining a systemic staff development program with ongoing support for classroom teachers based on professional development initiatives.
  11. Readily provide assistance to the teachers and the principal in curriculum and instruction.
  12. Demonstrate a positive attitude and commitment toward improving education for students.
  13. Carry out assigned responsibilities in a professional manner.
  14. Share responsibility for community relations.
  15. Enforces school policies in a fair and consistent manner.  

School/Organizational Climate

  1. Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
  2. Interact sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  3. Communicate effectively with students and staff.
  4. Co-manage front office with additional assistant principal.

School/Organizational Improvement

  1. Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  2. Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to monitor records and track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

Personnel Management

  1. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct regular walk-throughs and evaluation conferences.
  2. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

  1. Assist the supervision of operations in principal's absence.
  2. Serve as the administrator for extra-curricular events as assigned.
  3. Assist in planning of daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules and extracurricular activity schedules.
  4. Work with math and special education department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
  5. Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
  6. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.

Student Management

  1. Provide student services for all students in 504, ESL, Special Ed., including discipline, parent-teacher conference, third party hearing, and ARD/504.
  2. Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
  3. Coordinate the development of a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
  4. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.   

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment such as special education training. 

School/Community Relations

  1. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  2. Articulate the school's mission to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.
  3. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  1. Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal. Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned.

Other:

  1. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  2. Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and special events as needed.
  3. Be punctual in all areas.
  4. Maintain a positive attitude.
  5. Be a positive role model for all students.
  6. All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
