Job description

SUMMARY

The Research & Development Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and improvement of aerospace components, processes, and technologies. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this role applies advanced engineering principles, materials knowledge, and scientific methods across multiple projects. This position requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving capability, and the ability to independently drive projects while supporting broader engineering objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop new products, processes, and technologies using sound engineering principles
  • Improve existing designs, manufacturing processes, and system performance
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts across projects, equipment, and testing activities
  • Prepare and execute test plans, procedures, and technical reports
  • Analyze complex data sets and provide clear conclusions and recommendations
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements
  • Guide and support R&D Technicians in prototype and testing activities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, and program leadership
  • Participate in customer and internal technical reviews and meetings
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong prioritization and time management

KNOWLEDGE

  • Advanced understanding of mechanical, aerospace, or electrical engineering principles

  • Experience with testing, product development, or manufacturing environments preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work performed in office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments
  • Exposure to noise and particulates in manufacturing areas; PPE required
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods (up to 10 hours)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching overhead
  • May work in confined spaces or elevated areas as needed
  • Occasional outdoor work and travel

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • If a Security Clearance is required:
    • Candidates "must/may need" to be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
