Job description

As a Materials & Processes Engineer II, you will play a critical role in developing and testing advanced material solutions for aerospace and defense systems. You will conduct material analyses, develop specifications, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal material performance.The ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance), Aviation, and Security (IAS) business area is a leader in ISR and aviation, it is a leading prime manned and unmanned aircraft systems integrator for innovative, high-performance ISR and aviation systems. Its end-to-end Command, Control, Computers, Communications and Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (C4ISR) capabilities encompass design, integration, test, certification, ground/flight training and complete logistics support. IAS tailors solutions to customer cost, performance, and schedule requirements and designs to consistently exceed expectations - with an unrivaled record of on time and on (or under) budget deliveries.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and evaluate materials for aerospace and defense applications.

  • Conduct detailed material testing and analysis.

  • Create and maintain material and process specifications.

  • Collaborate with design engineers to optimize material selection.

  • Develop and execute qualification test plans and reports.

  • Provide technical guidance on material properties and performance.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.

  • 2+ years of experience in material science or a related role.

  • Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience.

  • Proficient understanding of material properties and testing methods.

  • General understanding of Materials and Process requirements.

  • Basic experience with Material and Process (M&P) specification development.

  • Exposure to working in multi-disciplinary design & development teams.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Master's degree in a related field.

  • Experience with conducting testing using material analysis tools such as spectroscopy, mechanical, and thermal testing equipment and associated software.

  • Experience developing test plans for evaluating the performance of materials for aircraft and spaceflight applications.

  • Familiarity with FAA , NASA, and/or DoD material and process (M&P) guidance & regulations.

  • Knowledge of approved materials allowable databases such as MMPDS, CHM-17, AGATE, NCAMP, and MAPTIS.

  • Ability to write test reports describing key inputs and outputs of material characterization testing along with supporting data analysis.

  • Knowledge of environmental requirements for materials utilized in aircraft and space applications (flammability, toxicity, outgassing, design for corrosion, etc.).

  • Experience providing technical guidance to a diverse team of engineers on issues related to materials and process engineering.

  • Experience with manufacturing, production, and product support to include disposition of engineering non-conformances.

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, US Department of Defense and/or US Military.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.

  • Occasional travel may be required.

  • Ability to work in an office or hybrid environment.

  • Applying systematic and logical problem-solving techniques to select materials and processes.

  • Clearly convey technical information, design specifications, and project updates to team members, stakeholders, and management.

  • Ability to understand technical documents, designs and test reports.
