Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of material flow within the facility, including inbound receiving, inventory control, associated material handling, production scheduling, and outbound load planning and shipping. This role ensures the right materials are available at the right time to meet production and customer delivery requirements while optimizing cost and efficiency.ย 


Supervision to: Production Scheduler, Cycle Counter, Shipping, Receiving, Packaging and Material handling Staffย 

Works closely with: Production Manager, Buyers, Project Managers, 3PL partnersย 


Key Responsibilities:

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Production Planning & Schedulingย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Assures the development and maintenance of the master production schedule to meet customer demand and plant capacity.ย ย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Coordinate with production and procurement to align schedules with material availability and labor capacity.ย ย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Monitor schedule attainment and adjust plans to minimize downtime, shortages, and excess inventory.ย ย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Manage MRP/ERP system inputs and outputs related to demand and supply planning.ย 

Materials Management & Inventory Controlย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Oversee inventory accuracy, control, and optimization across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Lead and monitor cycle counting programs to ensure high inventory accuracy.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Investigate and resolve discrepancies and implement corrective actions.

Receiving & Inbound Logisticsย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Manage all receiving operations, including executing inbound deliveries and dock activity.ย ย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ensure timely and accurate receipt of materials into inventory systems.ย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Collaborate with procurement for scheduling and issue resolution.ย 

Load Planning & Shippingย ย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Oversee outbound shipping operations, ensuring on-time delivery to customers.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Develop and manage load planning strategies to optimize freight costs and truck utilization.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Coordinate with carriers, third-party logistics providers, and project managers.ย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ensure proper packaging, labeling, and documentation for shipments.ย 

Warehouse & Material Handlingย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Direct warehouse operations including storage, picking, staging, packaging and material flow to production lines.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ensure proper use of equipment and adherence to safety standards.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Implement lean practices such as 5S and FIFO.ย 

Team Leadership & Continuous Improvementย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Lead, develop, and coach cross-functional teams.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, efficiency, and service level.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Establish KPIs and track performance metrics.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Partner with production, quality, engineering, and procurement teams.ย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Maintain compliance with quality, safety, and documentation requirements.ย 

ย Key Performance Metricsย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Schedule execution, inventory accuracy, on time shipments, freight cost efficiency, receiving and shipping accuracy, and cycle count compliance.ย
