Material Handler
The Material Handler safely operates an enclosed sit-down forklift in a lumber yard and production environment to move wood, lumber, and other building materials according to work orders. This role supports production and warehouse operations by accurately picking, transporting, and staging materials while coordinating closely with other operators and production workers.
Responsibilities
- Operate an enclosed sit-down forklift in a lumber yard and production setting to move wood, lumber, and other building materials.
- Pick up and transport lumber and materials in lengths ranging from 10 to 20 feet in accordance with work orders.
- Load, unload, and relocate large building materials safely and efficiently around the facility.
- Work from work orders and material handling systems to identify, pick, and stage the correct materials for production and shipping.
- Collaborate with other forklift operators and production workers to move materials and complete orders throughout the facility.
- Support inventory movement by accurately handling, organizing, and placing materials in designated areas.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating forklifts and handling large materials.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area, ensuring materials are stored and stacked safely.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience operating an enclosed sit-down forklift.
- Experience handling larger products such as wood, lumber, and building materials.
- Background working in a lumber yard or large material handling environment.
- Ability to read and follow work orders and use material handling systems.
- Strong material handling skills, including loading, unloading, picking, and moving inventory.
- Ability to work safely and effectively with other operators and production workers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working outdoors in a lumber yard or similar environment.
- Familiarity with inventory processes related to building materials.
- Comfort working with long materials ranging from 10 to 20 feet in length.

Work Environment
This role follows a Monday through Thursday schedule from approximately 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. and is based in a lumber yard environment. You work outdoors year-round while operating an enclosed forklift cab equipped with heating and air conditioning to maintain comfort in varying weather conditions. The position involves regular handling of large and long building materials in a production and yard setting, requiring consistent attention to safety and coordination with other team members.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
