Material Handler / Runner

The Material Handler / Runner is responsible for the physical movement, staging, labeling, and delivery of materials throughout the shop. This role is critical in bridging Receiving, Materials, and Production by ensuring materials are correctly identified, staged, and delivered to keep production flowing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work directly with the Material Coordinator to execute daily material handling tasks, while supporting Shop Leads to meet production needs
  • Pull materials from the Materials Cage based on approved requisitions.
  • Clearly label all materials with Job ID and staging information.
  • Stage materials in designated laydown or production areas.
  • Move materials between receiving, staging, and production areas.
  • Accurately handle all material‑related documentation (labels, job IDs, packing information).
  • Ensure documentation matches the correct job and material before movement or staging.
  • Deliver required documentation to the appropriate parties (Materials, Receiving, Production).
  • Communicate material status, issues, or discrepancies promptly.
  • Support clear, timely, and fluid communication between Receiving, Materials, and Production teams.
  • Load and feed materials to production equipment including saws, plasma tables, groovers, threaders, and weld bays.
  • Respond promptly to material requests via radio or direct communication.
  • Support daily production setup by staging materials for upcoming work.
  • Assist receiving by grouping newly delivered material with previously pulled or staged items.
  • Ensure materials are packaged, labeled, and staged correctly for internal movement.
  • Transport completed (QA/QC‑approved and labeled) material to final laydown locations.
  • Maintain clean, organized staging and laydown areas.
  • Communicate material availability and locations to production and leads.
  • Follow all material handling, safety, and equipment procedures.
