Job description

Technique is looking for a Materials Coordinator to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. This position reports to the Supply Chain Manager in the Purchasing department. This role is responsible for accepting, inspecting, stocking, and inventorying materials, hardware, and customer supplied components. Working safely is an essential function of this position, and safe work practices are clearly defined within company and department specific safety procedures.
The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 2 years of experience working in a warehouse setting, knowledge of various grades of sheet metal and tool steels (ASTM, SAE, AISI & JIS specifications), and experience operating material handling equipment. Close attention to detail, the ability to use inventory software, and strong organizational skills are critical factors in this role. The position includes Materials Coordinator Level 1 and Level 2 functions, with Level 2 responsibilities building on demonstrated competency in Level 1 functions.
Responsibilities:

  • Operate material handling equipment - Obtain license to operate forklift and overhead crane to unload material.
  • Perform receiving inspection - Perform basic receiving inspection of incoming materials.
  • Organize and stage material - Organize and properly stage material for use.
  • Verify material dimensions - Use inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, and tape measures, to verify sheet size and thickness matches what is ordered.
  • Safely handle material - Safely handle material in accordance with company and department specific safety procedures.
  • Distribute job folders - Distribute job folders to support production.
  • Process receivers in E2 - Process receivers in the E2 shop system.
  • Seek continuous improvements - Seek continuous improvement opportunities within the department.
  • File material certifications - File material certs and maintain material traceability (Level 2).
  • Maintain inventory levels - Maintain proper inventory levels for stock material and placement of re-order tags (Level 2).
  • Cycle count inventory - Cycle count sheet and tube inventory and adjust E2 accordingly (Level 2).
  • Handle non-conforming material - Ensure proper handling of non-conforming material (Level 2).
  • Process inventory adjustments - Process inventory adjustments in E2 (Level 2).

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years working in a warehouse setting
  • Knowledge of various grades of sheet metal and tool steels (ASTM, SAE, AISI & JIS specifications)
  • Experience operating material handling equipment
  • Basic understanding of types of material; firm knowledge of material grades for Level 2
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand specifications (Level 2)
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, and Word); advanced computer skills for Level 2
  • Ability to prioritize work
  • Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Close attention to detail
  • Ability to use inventory software
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work overtime and maintain flexibility in work schedule
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, vibration, and loud noise
  • No travel is expected for this position
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States, either by means of U.S. Citizenship, Work Visa, or H1B sponsorship

Position Type and Expected Hours:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a minimum of 40 hours per week with overtime as needed. Note: days and hours required may vary. Flexibility is required in all positions.
