Job description

Position Summary
The Materials Lead oversees daily warehouse operations and inventory control to ensure efficient material flow and support production requirements. This role coordinates receiving, shipping, inventory management, and material handling activities while leading two Materials Handlers. Working closely with production and warehouse teams, the Materials Lead maintains inventory accuracy, ensures material availability, and promotes safe, efficient operations that support overall supply chain performance.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily material flow to support production schedules and ensure departments have the raw materials and components needed to meet operational requirements.
  • Monitor inventory levels, communicate shortages and replenishment needs, and maintain material availability to support uninterrupted production.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records through ERP transactions, Excel-based tracking tools, cycle counts, and reconciliation of physical inventory to system records.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies to ensure inventory accuracy and data integrity.
  • Coordinate receiving activities, including unloading, verifying incoming materials against purchase orders, processing receipts, and maintaining receiving documentation within the ERP system.
  • Coordinate outbound shipments by overseeing packaging, staging, loading, freight documentation, and shipping activities to ensure accurate and on-time customer deliveries.
  • Generate and maintain shipping documentation, including packing lists, shipping labels, bills of lading, and other required transportation records.
  • Develop and maintain Excel-based inventory controls, including formulas, reporting tools, and reorder point monitoring to identify potential stock shortages.
  • Lead, support, and train Materials Handlers and other warehouse personnel on material handling, inventory control, safety requirements, and operational procedures.
  • Promote and enforce safety standards, housekeeping practices, and company policies throughout warehouse operations.
  • Collaborate with Production, Purchasing, Customer Service, Shipping, and Receiving teams to resolve material-related issues and improve communication across departments.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve warehouse efficiency, material flow, inventory accuracy, and overall supply chain performance.
  • Participate in physical inventories, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives to support operational excellence and inventory control objectives.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or relevant supply chain coursework preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of inventory management and material flow processes.
  • Experience using ERP, MRP, or warehouse management systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to train and mentor team members.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing and warehouse environment.
