Material Control Specialist

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Material Control Specialist located at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA. Astrion is responsible for managing the NASA Ames Flight Processing Center (FPC) which support spaceflight projects by providing hardware management, assembly, integration, and test facility. The Material Control Services (MCS) group under the Flight Processing Center (FPC) provides management and administration, customer service, and coordination of all NASA Flight projects owned raw materials, unfinished products, transitional inventory, cyclic inventory and support equipment. Additionally, they ensure item traceability information and transactional history is captured, managed, and controlled through the use of an inventory tracking database.

The MCS is responsible for carrying out material management functions in accordance with NASA directives, polices, and processes, and providing independent quality assurance function to verify all material conforms to NASA inventory requirements.

The MCS employs and manages an Electronic Inventory System developed and designed to support NASA Ames space flight hardware inventory for numerous projects/missions. The Astrion MCS team is responsible for ensuring functionality, process control and documentation, data control and integrity across all space flight hardware project materials, assemblies, and equipment. Coordination of project specific shipping for both domestic and internationally including tracking, handling of all Government owned material and equipment in support of mission and projects.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to use inventory computer programs to update counts, compile reports, generate spreadsheets, and respond to government ordered audits
  • Mathematical and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working in a stockroom or other inventory positions
  • Obtaining a NASA certified Forklift operator license.

  • Ability to be onsite 5 days a week and pass a federal background check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Working understanding of NASA documents and inventories configuration control and management highly desired
  • Knowledge and experience with NASA standards and best practices, especially related to Configuration Management, a benefit
  • Exceptional customer relationship management highly desirable

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Keep track of and manage day to day receipt, issuance, storage, movement, and condition of all materials, assemblies, tooling, equipment, and transportation handling of NASA owned flight inventories.
  • Adherence to specified NASA standards policies, specifications, and processes
  • The identification of material specifications, quality records, limited life characteristics, preservation requirements and item certification record
  • Authorization control for the receipt and issue of materials into and out of bonded stores
  • Movement record of material into critical aerospace product is tracked, recorded, and archived
  • Record day to day inventory transactions so that item is properly stocked and location accurately recorded
  • Managing the stocking and cataloging of project inventories
  • Performing quality checks on stored inventory and discarding inventory that no longer meets NASA standards
  • Identifying, reporting, and resolving inventory discrepancies
  • Reporting differences between actual count and stock levels on record
  • Inspect and identify damaged packages, cases, crates, boxes, pouches, and reporting findings to management
