CED is well situated in Downers Grove, Illinois - we are located a commuter train ride west of Chicago and a short drive from farmland.


CED's current salary range for this role is $102,500 to $138,500 / year. At CED, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, location and geography. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program. CED’s benefit offerings include medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, life insurance and other voluntary supplemental insurance coverages, plus parental leave, adoption assistance, tuition assistance and employer/partner discounts. CED follows a 9/80 work schedule allowing employees to enjoy alternating Fridays off.


JOB SUMMARY:

The Manager, Quality Control Manager (QCM) holds accountability and responsibility to ensure that CED’s company- wide inspection processes meet quality standards/processes/procedures, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements. Working with Quality Inspection Leads, the QCM develops and oversees quality processes, ensures work is completed per schedule(s) requirements, leads inspections and audits, analyzes quality data, and implements corrective actions to improve performance. The QCM holds accountability for assigned personnel to be competently trained and continue development of staff.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of CED’s Quality Assurance Inspection department; holds full accountability for accuracy of work and safe and efficient operational outputs as predicated by company policy
  • Direct the planning and scheduling of work to be performed to meet business needs, manufacturing schedules and on-time delivery to the customer
  • Ensure compliance with the Quality management System (QMS) for delegated and designated responsibilities
  • Establish priorities and allocate resources as required to accomplish all Inspection department goals
  • Ensure a high level of skills, competency and cross training within the department for maximum flexibility
  • Ensure segregation and disposition of non-conforming materials outside the Inspection team
  • Ensure the team has the correct tools, systems and instruction to perform duties to a high degree of accuracy, completeness and compliance
  • Manage employee performance by providing routine feedback to Inspection Lead(s) and assigned team members
  • Manage the Non-conforming Reports process as related to non-conforming materials; ensure material custody transfer are complete per policy requirements
  • Lead the Corrective Action Response (CAR) process for assigned / delegated responsibilities
  • Holds ownership of CED’s calibration process and outcomes
  • Effectively interface directly with various departments including Program Management, Engineering, Contracts and Manufacturing to be the subject matter expert in resolution of quality control questions and concerns
  • Monitor and report on assigned KPI’s; recommend and implement corrective actions for identified deviations
  • Work with manufacturing, supply chain, engineering and management staff on programs and procedures


OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Comply with government and corporate laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Ensures 100% compliance with the Chemring Operational Framework, Code of Conduct and U.S. Code of Ethics and Business Conduct
  • Other duties / responsibilities as assigned by leadership


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Directly supervise Quality Inspection Leads and their assigned personnel.


EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business, or equivalent combination of education and experience


EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience of Quality Control / Inspection within a manufacturing environment; experience within the Aerospace & Defense industry is highly preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Lawful US person (ITAR restriction)
  • Must be eligible to possess explosive under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) for all employees of Chemring Energetic Devices
  • Effectively work in an environment of shifting priorities
  • Extensive working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5; ability to read blueprints and drawings
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing, team leadership, and organizational skills
  • Excellent critical-thinking skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • High degree of integrity and trustworthiness
  • Experience with ERP systems; Microsoft D365 experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Lifting carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 25 pounds occasionally, and / or a negligible amount of weight frequently. Must be able to pass vision requirements based on contracting requirement. Involves sitting, standing and walking throughout the day. Extensive and routine use of a computer and some extended periods of sitting at a desk.
