The Safety Specialist supports the well-being of team members through safety programs within the organization. Responsibilities include implementing and maintaining safety protocols, conducting safety investigations and inspections, developing and conducting safety training, maintaining safety records and scorecards, maintaining compliance with environmental health and safety regulations and overall, promoting a culture of safety.

  • Ensure ongoing compliance via training and record keeping activities in accordance with company policy and local, state, and federal rules and regulations.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, such as inspection and training records, incident reports, and scorecards.

  • Stay informed about relevant safety regulations and standards. Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

  • Conduct regular inspections to identify potential safety and environmental hazards; collaborate to drive resolution of hazards.

  • Ensure proper management and disposal of hazardous materials and waste in compliance with environmental regulations.

  • Evaluate current practices and assess potential risks; prioritize and escalate them to leadership.

  • Facilitate training and serve as the point person for safety topics.

  • Execute emergency response plans, procedures, and drills for fires, natural disasters, and medical emergencies.

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root cause. Collaborate with safety and leadership teams to develop and implement corrective actions.

  • Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies and external auditors during inspections and audits related to environmental health and safety.

  • All other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Associate's degree; preferred: Bachelor's degree with focus in industrial safety.

  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting, and familiarity with behavior-based safety.

  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ANSI, NFPA).

  • Capable of leveraging knowledge of lean problem solving, five-why, and root cause analysis.

  • Knowledge of ergonomics, machine guarding, and considerations for manufacturing facilities.

  • Highly organized and capable of multitasking to drive several projects/activities/goals.

  • Collaborative and capable of building partnerships and supporting team members. Willing to manage conflicting views and drive toward an acceptable outcome for all parties.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
