At Ethos Biosciences, we are a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) that offers private label manufacturing to many of the biggest life science and diagnostic companies around the world. Position Summary
The Microbiology Technician is primarily responsible for the manufacturing of bacterial control materials used in microbiology staining applications. This includes culturing, harvesting, and processing bacterial organisms into finished control products in compliance with ISO 13485 and applicable regulatory requirements. When not engaged in bacterial control production, the technician supports the Quality Control laboratory by performing application/performance testing of stains and reagents, as well as any additional testing assigned by laboratory leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Bacterial Control Manufacturing
•    Culture, maintain, and propagate bacterial organisms per established work instructions and aseptic technique.
•    Harvest, quantify, and process bacterial cultures into control slides, suspensions, or other finished control formats.
•    Prepare growth media, reagents, and consumables required for production.
•    Maintain and monitor incubators, biosafety cabinets, autoclaves, and related equipment.
•    Perform in-process and final QC checks on manufactured controls; document lot records and batch documentation accurately.
•    Manage stock cultures and maintain organism inventory, including procurement of reference strains as needed.

Quality Control / Application Testing
•    Perform application and performance testing of stains, reagents, kits, and control products to verify they meet specifications.
•    Execute routine QC testing, including staining runs, reagent verification, and comparison against reference standards.
•    Perform any additional testing requested by QC or laboratory management, including troubleshooting, investigational, and validation-related testing.
•    Evaluate and interpret staining results; document observations and outcomes.

Documentation & Compliance
•    Maintain accurate, complete, and legible records in accordance with Good Documentation Practices and 21 CFR Part 11 (where applicable).
•    Support nonconformance investigations, CAPAs, and deviations as needed.
•    Follow all work instructions, safety protocols, and quality system requirements under ISO 13485.
•    Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory workspace.

Safety
•    Adhere to biosafety practices appropriate to the organisms handled (typically BSL-1/BSL-2)
•    Follow proper handling, storage, and disposal procedures for biological and chemical materials.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
•    Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
•    1–3 years of laboratory experience, preferably in a manufacturing, clinical, or regulated environment.
•    Experience with aseptic technique and bacterial culturing required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
•    Proficiency in aseptic technique, culturing, and microbiological methods.
•    Familiarity with histology/pathology staining is a plus.
•    Ability to follow work instructions precisely and maintain detailed documentation.
•    Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management, with the ability to shift between production and QC duties as workload demands.
•    Working knowledge of ISO 13485, GMP/GDP, and/or 21 CFR Part 11 preferred.
•    Basic computer proficiency (LIMS/eQMS experience a plus).

Physical Requirements
•    Ability to perform repetitive fine-motor tasks and use a microscope for extended periods.
•    Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
•    Requires handling of biological materials and chemical reagents.
