What is a Matcor job?

A Matcor job typically involves working in corrosion protection, specializing in cathodic protection systems, coatings, and engineering solutions to prevent metal structures from deteriorating. Employees in these roles may install, maintain, and inspect corrosion control systems for pipelines, tanks, marine structures, and industrial facilities. Positions at Matcor can range from field technicians and engineers to project managers, all focused on extending the lifespan of critical infrastructure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Matcor position, and why are they important?

To succeed as a Matcor technician or field engineer (typically employed with MATCOR, a leader in corrosion engineering), you need a solid background in electrical/electronic systems, construction practices, and an understanding of corrosion prevention—often supported by technical certifications such as NACE accreditation. Proficiency in using cathodic protection testing equipment, GPS mapping tools, and data recording systems is also generally required. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication skills are essential for performing field work, coordinating with clients, and reporting findings. These skills are vital to ensure accurate testing, compliance with industry standards, and the protection of infrastructure assets from corrosion.

What are some typical daily responsibilities for a Matcor field technician?

As a Matcor field technician, your daily tasks often include performing site assessments, installing or maintaining cathodic protection systems, conducting electrical continuity and corrosion testing, and documenting all results precisely. You’ll frequently be collaborating with engineers, project managers, and sometimes directly with clients to ensure projects are completed on time and meet regulatory requirements. Many days involve working outdoors in variable conditions, so being adaptable and safety-conscious is important. Attention to detail and adherence to project specifications are key, as your work is essential to maintaining the long-term integrity of pipelines, tanks, and other critical infrastructure.
