What is a matcha specialist?

A Matcha job typically refers to a role related to the production, preparation, or sales of matcha, a finely ground green tea powder. This could include positions in tea farming, product development, café service, or marketing within the tea industry. Responsibilities may vary based on the specific role but often involve sourcing quality matcha, preparing matcha-based drinks or foods, and educating customers about its benefits.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a matcha specialist?

To thrive as a Matcha Tea Specialist, you need deep knowledge of tea varieties, preparation techniques, and food safety practices, often supported by experience in the food and beverage industry. Familiarity with barista tools, matcha-specific utensils, and POS systems is typically required. Exceptional customer service, attention to detail, and communication skills help create a memorable and educational experience for customers. These skills ensure high product quality, customer satisfaction, and efficient service in a specialty tea environment.

What are some common challenges faced by matcha tea sommeliers in maintaining product quality and customer satisfaction?

Matcha tea sommeliers often face challenges in ensuring the freshness and authenticity of matcha, as it is sensitive to light, heat, and humidity. Proper storage and handling are crucial to prevent oxidation and flavor degradation. Additionally, educating customers about the differences between ceremonial and culinary grades, as well as guiding them in preparation techniques, is essential for customer satisfaction. Sommeliers also collaborate closely with suppliers to maintain consistent quality and may work in teams with baristas or retail staff to enhance the overall customer experience.

Job description

About Us

At The Bread Club, everything is made from scratch in-house daily - from breads to viennoiserie. We’ve partnered with local Texas farmers to mill our own flour. We like to combine old-world French and Italian techniques with local ingredients to create bread that’s not only delicious, but also balanced and natural - the kind of bread you can enjoy every day.

The Bread Club is more than just a bakery. It’s a culture where bread is celebrated, shared, and reimagined. This is bread you can feel good about eating again.

Our Team & The Food

Our team is led by our Baking Director Peter Edris, formerly of Frenchette Bakery in NYC, and Christophe De Lellis (1 Michelin Star), our Culinary Director.

Our menu highlights artisan bread, pastries, and sandwiches, all made in-house, alongside an exceptional coffee and matcha program that complements the bakery experience.

About You

Our team is our most valuable ingredient, the heart of our company, the face of our brand, and what truly makes The Bread Club experience special and unique.

As a member of our management team, you will lead by example, inspire those around you, and create an environment built on warmth, hospitality, teamwork, and accountability. You will work closely with our Leadership Team to develop our people, strengthen daily operations, and consistently deliver an exceptional experience for both our guests and our team.

The Bread Club is growing, and we are looking for leaders who are excited to grow with us. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact, develop future leaders, and take on greater responsibility as our company expands.

We strive to create amazing experiences, not only for our guests, but also for our employees. We are looking for someone who is happy, humble, hardworking, and passionate about building a strong team and a lasting career with The Bread Club.
