What is a matcha specialist?

A Matcha job typically refers to a role related to the production, preparation, or sales of matcha, a finely ground green tea powder. This could include positions in tea farming, product development, café service, or marketing within the tea industry. Responsibilities may vary based on the specific role but often involve sourcing quality matcha, preparing matcha-based drinks or foods, and educating customers about its benefits.

What are some common challenges faced by matcha tea sommeliers in maintaining product quality and customer satisfaction?

Matcha tea sommeliers often face challenges in ensuring the freshness and authenticity of matcha, as it is sensitive to light, heat, and humidity. Proper storage and handling are crucial to prevent oxidation and flavor degradation. Additionally, educating customers about the differences between ceremonial and culinary grades, as well as guiding them in preparation techniques, is essential for customer satisfaction. Sommeliers also collaborate closely with suppliers to maintain consistent quality and may work in teams with baristas or retail staff to enhance the overall customer experience.
