Position Summary
• Title: Payroll Tax Supervisor
• Responsibilities include daily payroll tax processes covering federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance.
• Preparation of various payroll tax payments and returns.
• Training new department staff and providing essential tools for success.
• Strong problem-solving skills and customer service orientation required.
• Must develop relationships with clients across different industries and personalities.
• Knowledge of the PEO model is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensure timely federal, state, and local tax payments for multi-state entities.
• Understand PEO and ASO organizations related to state filing requirements.
• Manage reports and filings for CFO for AUP quarterly tax audits.
• Develop new guidelines and procedures for payroll tax processes.
• Train and assist in resolving complex tax reconciliations, variances, credits, and errors.
• Supervise and train staff to ensure quality daily processes and tax notice resolution.
• Manage EFTPS enrollments, annual wage reconciliation, payroll tax adjustments, W-2, and W-2C preparation.
• Maintain professional and technical payroll tax knowledge through workshops and research.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Minimum 3 years of multi-state, multi-jurisdiction, high-volume payroll tax experience.
• At least 1 year of recent senior, lead, or supervisor experience.
• Preferred experience in PEO or related industry.
• Hands-on tax return processing experience required.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local wage laws.
• MasterTax and Prism/HRP experience preferred.
• Ability to analyze complex regulatory tax notices and data.
• Results-oriented with multi-tasking ability in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail.
• Work independently and collaboratively with strong service skills.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
Education & Experience
• Minimum 5 years multi-state payroll tax processing experience.
• MasterTax and HR Pyramid experience preferred.
• Minimum 2 years multi-state payroll tax return preparation and high volume experience.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), WebEx, and Internet.
• Strong technical, time management, and organizational skills.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamentals of Payroll Certification (FPC) required.
Physical Demands
