Job description

Job Summary:

Manages and maintains the Campus’s Learning Resource System (including but not limited to the library) and assists students with their library and research needs on a full-time basis. Supervises any assistant librarians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to all College policies and procedures and operates at all times within state and federal statutes and regulations and within standards of accreditation.
  • Participates with the Campus Dean, Program Chairs, and faculty in planning and goal-setting activities for the Library Resource System.
  • Ensures that proactive, professional, customer-oriented services are provided by the Learning Resource System, such as reference/research services and assistance with accessing resources.
  • In compliance with Library Resource System goals and plans, coordinates the development and application of Information Center technology.
  • Assists in the selection and acquisition of library resources, equipment, and materials.
  • Works within the library budget constraints.
  • Conducts classes and workshops on library resources, as assigned.
  • Administers entrance testing, as assigned.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and customarily and regularly directs the work of library staff at the Campuses.
  • Provides suggestions and recommendations as to the hiring, firing, promotion, demotion, discipline, or any other change of status for an employee under his or her direct supervision to the Provost; suggestions and recommendations are given particular weight.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to specific subject matter areas under his or her administrative guidance.
  • Participates regularly in continuing professional development activities.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Maintains professional and effective working relationships with all other Campus personnel.
  • Conducts his or her professional and personal life in a fashion that fosters a positive impression of the College.
  • Performs the job on site when required. Remote work is appropriate when onsite work is not required. Subject to change if superseded by Human Resource policy regarding remote work.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • A master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science.

Experience:

  • Proven skill in using a library holding-based program.
  • Experienced managing a virtual library.
  • Prior work experience for a SACS accredited institution.
  • Proven skill in using the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Sufficient knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and testing software to perform duties.
