POSITION SUMMARY:
The Personal Trainer develops and implements individualized workout regimens and conducts fitness assessments for members. The Personal Trainer recruits and obtains personal training clientele.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Designs and implement customized and individualized fitness programs for members based on their current fitness levels, physical challenges, preferences and goals.
• Delivers safe, effective, fun and interesting workouts to all fitness-training clients.
• Contacts member within 48 hours of receiving notification of interest, and conducts individual meetings with members to discuss goals and interest, develops personal training plan with members to work towards their goals.
• Promotes and sells personal training services through interaction with members.
• Has knowledge of and is able to communicate all programs and services being offered at the YMCA. Encourages member participation in all YMCA programs, including the Annual Campaign and other fundraising events.
• Meets assigned personal training sales and client retention goals.
• Exhibits visibility and approachability at all times.
• Ensures that the wellness areas are sanitized and clean, and returns all misplaced or used equipment to its proper place.
• Ensures that all necessary equipment is available for member use, and inspects equipment to be sure that it is in safe working order.
• Reports all maintenance issues immediately, including damaged or out-of-service equipment.
• Maintains clear and comprehensive written documentation of each member's program
• Maintains accurate records in Daxko Engage; follows all clients in Daxko Engage.
• Starts and ends personal training sessions on time.
• Reports for work as assigned and secures an appropriate substitute when necessary.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Accurately documents each training session and completes client registration and recordkeeping as required by current YMCA of Greater Cleveland Personal Training policies and procedures.
• Conducts fitness assessments and evaluations. Designs exercise programs for a variety of participants by combining individual health and fitness goals with fitness assessment results.
• Provides safe and effective instruction of all equipment and works at the skill level appropriate for the particular member. Demonstrates and teaches Wellness Center policies and etiquette (wiping down equipment after use, re-racking weights, etc.)
• May be required to work as a Wellness Center Attendant (at the Wellness Center Attendant pay rate) for the number of hours determined by the Wellness leadership.
• May be required to work as a Wellness Consultant (at the Wellness Consultant pay rate) for the number of hours determined by the Wellness leadership.
• May be required to conducts new member orientation sessions (at the Wellness Consultant pay rate) for the number of hours determined by the Wellness leadership.
• Maintains a varied schedule depending on client and branch needs.
Education:
• High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
Certification (s) and Requirements:
• Certification in CPR at the level of Basic Life Support or Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration and associated-determined safety training required within 90 days of hire.
• Current national NCCA-accredited Personal Trainer certification required before date of hire. Exception - Candidates who hold a BS in Exercise Science or Kinesiology must obtain a NCCA-accredited Personal Trainer certification within 90 days of hire.
• Required to complete Principles of Member Health and Wellness (in LINK), and the job-specific technical training within 90 days of hire.
• Maintains all required certifications.
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
• Most have the ability to conduct scientifically valid fitness assessments and appropriately interpret results.
• Must be able to design personalized exercise programs for general populations and for people with specific concerns (obesity, heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, etc.).
• Must possess effective motivation and communication skills, interpersonal skills, and sales skills.
• Must maintain confidentiality and practice discernment and tact.
• Demonstrate commitment to the mission, cause of the YMCA, and uphold its values and ethics.
• Ability to work effectively work with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions
• Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect. All employees are required to follow the child abuse and neglect reporting process: completion of Suspected Child Abuse/Neglect reporting form, calling children protective services (696-Kids) and notifying your immediate supervisor, branch executive, risk management and human resources department (s).
