Job description

What You Will Do
  • Ability to instruct various levels and types of exercise classes in a safe and effective manner.
  • Cues proper safety and form while instructing classes.
  • Responsible for successfully leading groups of 7 or more in a safe and effective manner according to ACSM guidelines for group fitness.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications:
Education
  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and
  • Associate's Degree in Exercise Science or similar field of study. (Preferred) and
  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science (or similar field of study). (Preferred)
Work Experience
  • Minimum of 100 hours of group exercise instruction in the past year. (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Appropriate training for specific equipment utilized in classes that instructor is teaching. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED (Required within 90 Days)
  • General Group Exercise certification and/or a certification pertaining to your fitness specialty class. (Required) and
  • Certification or actively seek certification from one of the following: American Council on Exercise (ACE), Group Fitness and Fitness Association of America, American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), or National Dance Exercise Instructor Training or a Nationally recognized Group Certification. (Required within 90 Days) and
  • Association or a certification similar and/or a certification pertaining to your fitness specialty class (Ex. Zumba, Spinning, Les Mills). (Required)
