GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner (PNP or FNP) is a registered nurse with advanced education and training in pediatrics. A Physician assistant is an advanced practice provider with advanced education and training in managing all ages. The PNP/PA provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to children and adolescents in the emergency department setting. The PNP/PA works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest quality of care for patients and their families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Perform comprehensive physical examinations of children and adolescents in the
emergency department
Diagnose and treat common pediatric illnesses and injuries
Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, X-rays, and imaging studies
Develop and implement treatment plans for pediatric patients
Educate patients and families about their health conditions and treatment options
Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide
comprehensive care
Participate in quality improvement initiatives
Stay up-to-date on current pediatric medical knowledge and best practices

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Training:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies

Work Experience:

  • 2 years' experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in a Pediatric Emergency or Pediatrics setting, preferred.
  • Previous nursing experience in Pediatric Emergency or Pediatrics preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

  • State of Michigan Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant license required
  • AHA/ARC BLS certification required
