Title: Instructor of Biology (Temp)

Job Summary

This is a 9-month, temp contract position. The instructor will perform day-to-day operations of the instructional programs in Biology and/or Anatomy & Physiology. Faculty member will also provide advisement to students, participate in college committees and campus activities, and develop coursework as needed. The standard teaching load is 15 credit hours per semester. The teaching assignment may include online, hybrid, and/or distance classes, evening classes, dual-enrollment, and off-campus locations. The instructor is responsible for the success of the teaching/learning process within the classroom.

Job Duties

  • Teach courses and labs as scheduled. Teaching duties to be divided as needed among General Biology I & II, Microbiology, or Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II.
  • Maintain regular office hours as set by the college. 
  • Prepare Master Course Syllabi.
  • Serve on college committees when elected or appointed. 
  • Provide a grade evaluation on each student's performance in a fashion and frequency required by the college. 
  • Make recommendations to the dean or their designee regarding curriculum additions, deletions or revisions. 
  • Participate in course and program-level assessment activities.
  • Participate in department, division, and institutional initiatives
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous quality improvement in student instruction and professional role development. 
  • Serve as a faculty mentor to students. 
  • Demonstrate commitment to the community college concept and team management principles. 
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in biology, biological sciences, anatomy/physiology, biochemistry, bioengineering, biomedical science, botany, aquatic biology, integrative biology, marine biology, microbiology, cellular or molecular biology, genetics, or zoology from an accredited institution.

Master's degree from an accredited institution with at least 18 graduate hours in any of the above disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior teaching experience in higher education, preferably at a community college
Prior experience teaching general biology and human anatomy & physiology
Prior experience teaching at off-campus locations
Familiarity with the mission and role of the community college in higher education.
Ability to work with diverse students, including non-traditional students and dual-enrolled high school students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Provide instruction in accordance with established expectations
Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies
Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations
Maintain and submit, on time, required student attendance and academic records
Post and maintain regular campus hours in accordance with institutional policy
Function as an academic advisor to students
Participate in the development and review of curriculum
Participate in the development of instructional methods, materials, and modalities
Participate in college, division, and department activities, initiatives, and committees
Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments
Demonstrate current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and a willingness to pursue future technological developments.

Pay Rate:  $44,994 - $53,992 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience, which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
