Mastercam Programming information

What are some common challenges Mastercam Programmers face when working with complex parts, and how can they address them?

Mastercam Programmers often encounter challenges when programming complex geometries, such as intricate contours or multi-axis toolpaths. These situations require careful planning to avoid collisions, ensure optimal surface finishes, and maintain efficient cycle times. Collaborating closely with machinists and engineers can help identify potential manufacturing issues early on. Additionally, regularly updating Mastercam skills and staying current with software updates can greatly improve problem-solving and productivity when handling difficult projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mastercam Programmer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Mastercam Programmer, you need strong skills in CNC machining, CAD/CAM software proficiency, and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, typically supported by technical training or certification in Mastercam. Familiarity with Mastercam software, G-code programming, and CNC machine operation is crucial for producing accurate toolpaths and efficient machining. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication with machinists and engineers are essential soft skills. These competencies ensure the creation of precise parts, minimize errors, and optimize production efficiency in a manufacturing environment.

What is Mastercam programming?

Mastercam programming refers to the process of using Mastercam software to create toolpaths and generate G-code for CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines. This software enables programmers to design parts, simulate machining operations, and optimize cutting processes for manufacturing. Mastercam programmers convert CAD models into instructions that CNC machines use to fabricate parts with precision and efficiency.

Do CNC programmers make good money?

CNC programmers, including those skilled in Mastercam programming, typically earn competitive wages that vary by experience, location, and industry. Entry-level positions may start lower, but experienced programmers with certifications and proficiency in CAD/CAM software can earn higher salaries, often supplemented by overtime and benefits.

Can a CNC machinist make 100k a year?

Mastercam programming is a skill used by CNC machinists, and experienced professionals with advanced skills, certifications, and working in high-demand industries can potentially earn $100,000 or more annually. Factors such as location, level of experience, specialization, and the complexity of the work influence earning potential.

How much do mastercam programmers make?

Mastercam programmers typically earn between $50,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Skilled programmers with certifications and proficiency in CAD/CAM software can earn higher salaries, especially in manufacturing environments with complex machining needs.

What is the salary of Mastercam engineer?

The salary of a Mastercam programmer or engineer typically ranges from $50,000 to $80,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Skilled users proficient in CAD/CAM software and CNC machining can earn higher wages, especially with certifications or advanced skills.

Job description

Overview
We're hiring a Manufacturing Engineer with 2+ years of experience to help us develop, implement, and optimize cost-effective manufacturing processes at our Maryville facility. Our plant relies on precision and efficiency to deliver world-class products-particularly within injection molding and assembly operations. We're looking for a highly analytical, hands-on problem solver to elevate our operations.
This is an ownership-driven opportunity for an engineer who thrives on managing the complete lifecycle of manufacturing processes with minimal supervision. One day you might be researching material flow and cooling paths for complex injection molding dies, and the next you're modifying MasterCAM solid models, coordinating a new product launch, or validating mold designs with external suppliers.
As you grow, so will your impact. You'll lead critical cost-reduction and continuous improvement projects, champion lean principles, and collaborate cross-functionally with everyone from Product Engineering to Quality and Purchasing. We are a team-oriented environment that values autonomy, technical expertise, and results.
If you are excited by taking the lead on complex projects and making things better every day, we want to talk.
Compensation
  • $80k - $90k

Benefits
  • Comprehensive Health, Dental & Vision coverage
  • Investment 401(k) Plan & Profit Sharing
  • Paid Time Off, Holidays & Winter Shutdown
  • Tuition Assistance Program

Responsibilities:
  • Optimize Production Processes: Perform product and process analysis to drive cost reduction, improve quality, and enhance overall efficiency.
  • Design & Development: Research, design, and develop process parameters for injection molding dies, including material flow, venting, and cooling paths.
  • Drive New Product Launches: Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new and revised products, establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating results.
  • Manage Tooling & Equipment: Design, develop, test, source, and cost-justify various tools, machinery, and equipment for manufacturing methods. Use project management techniques to ensure tools, gauges, fixtures, and CMM/CNC/EDM programs are fully defined and implemented.
  • Supplier Collaboration: Review and validate mold designs with suppliers during initial stages, and coordinate repairs and design changes for injection molds.
  • Database & Routing Management: Take responsibility for manufacturing routing databases, maintaining the accuracy of operation sequences, labor hours, set-up/changeover times, machine cycle times, and work instructions.
  • CAD/CAM Operations: Create and modify MasterCAM manufacturing solid models to define processes as needed.
  • Cross-Functional Teamwork: Work closely with Product Engineering, Marketing, Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Accounting to maintain project focus and resolve challenges.

Requirements
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or an equivalent discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of Lean manufacturing principles.
