Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of robust, scalable, and secure software solutions across various platforms and technologies.
  • Collaborate with product owners, architects, and other engineering teams to define technical requirements, scope projects, and ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing technical guidance, code reviews, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Drive best practices in software development, including coding standards, testing methodologies, release processes, and AI-assisted development practices.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring the stability and performance of critical systems.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the software architecture, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from conceptualization to deployment and maintenance.
  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies, tools, frameworks, and AI-enabled capabilities to enhance development efficiency and product capabilities.
  • Explore and leverage intelligent automation, prompt-driven development techniques, and AI-assisted engineering tools where appropriate.
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in software development, with a proven track record of delivering successful projects.
  • Expertise in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Python, C#, or Go.
  • Strong experience building full-stack applications using Angular, React, Node.js, and RESTful APIs.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., SQL Server, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB).
  • Proficiency in designing and building RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management tools.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI concepts, Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and AI-assisted software development practices.
  • Experience integrating AI-powered capabilities, intelligent automation solutions, or conversational applications into enterprise platforms is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in the insurance or financial services industry is a plus.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools and platforms such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, Google Vertex AI, GCP Agent Development Kit (ADK), or similar technologies is a plus.
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering, intelligent automation, Responsible AI principles, and integrating AI capabilities into enterprise applications is a plus.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
