Job description

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in Washington, DC, helping them break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them.

Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare, and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation:
We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The salary range for this position is $59,092.80 to $62,587.36 and is commensurate with experience.

The Clinical Setting Addictions Counselor provides individual counseling, group facilitation, intake and assessment of clients in the addiction treatment program.

This position is located at Leland Place, which provides support for individuals looking to build independence and maintain sobriety. Leland Place is located on 45th Street in NE Washington, DC (across from the Benning Road metro on the Blue Line).

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm & 11:00 am - 7:00 pm (one evening shift per week)

Qualifications

Required: Master's degree in social work or counseling, or Certified Addictions Counselor DC License; 1-2 years of experience providing addiction treatment or mental health services; experience providing services to the homeless population

Required License/Certification: Certified Addictions Counselor I or II, LGSW, LICSW, or LPC from the District of Columbia Department of Health, CPR/First Aid

Expected Contributions/Addiction Treatment Services:

  • Conduct initial individual assessments
  • Assess clients for financial eligibility, including Medicaid and APRA; make referrals for enrollment when needed
  • Develop treatment plans and update them as needed
  • Provide outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment services to clients
  • Develop and facilitate addiction groups
  • Provide individual addiction counseling to clients in different phases of treatment
  • Assess client readiness for the current level of care and transfer to residential treatment
  • Conduct case management for clients in collaboration with staff and programs
  • Complete discharge planning and make referrals to alternative programs as needed
  • Write client progress notes and maintain documentation in required electronic health record systems

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Facilitation skills
  • Team orientated
  • Knowledge of mental health and substance abuse issues, including co-occurring diagnoses, in a residential setting
  • Ability to use creativity, strengths-based approach, and evidence-based practices with the client
  • Flexibility with the ability to multitask despite competing priorities
  • Experience with DataWits, ECW strongly preferred
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Reports to: Program Manager - Single Site

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit or stand for long periods
