Job description

RUDA Moot Court Coach
Job no: 50000272
Work type: Part time
Location: Virginia Beach

Responsibilities:
Critical features of this job are described below and may be subject to change at any time, due to reasonable accommodation or other reason.
From September to October, the moot court coach meets with Regent Undergraduate Debate Association (RUDA) members for two sessions of two hours each week. The coach works with RUDA student leaders to help prepare students for competition and determine team pairings. If necessary, the coach organizes an intramural competition to determine which teams will compete in regional American Moot Court Association (AMCA) competition.
Between November and January, the coach is available to meet with teams that advance from regional to pre-national and national tournaments on an as-needed basis.
It is highly desired that the coach will travel with RUDA teams to AMCA tournaments.
The coach assists the RUDA faculty advisor in determining grades for GOVT 368 Moot Court, on a pass/fail basis, based on student participation in RUDA.
Requirements:
  • Education: A J.D. or a Bachelor's degree with two years of law school completed.
  • Prerequisites for the Job: Experience competing in and/or coaching moot court.
  • Personal Characteristics: Must be committed to Regent's values of Excellence, Innovation and Integrity Must be committed to helping undergraduate students grow in their understanding of law & courts, their debate skills and their character.
    Must be fully supportive of the mission and direction of Regent University and the College of Arts and Sciences to develop and raise "Christian Leadership to Change the World." Experience in working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with simultaneous multiple tasks. Must possess critical thinking, analysis, writing, and project management capabilities.
    Strong communication and interpersonal skills required. Ability to work independently and accomplish tasks based on knowledge, experience, and expertise within established principles. Willingness to carry out highly detailed work to completion.
