Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Master Electrician role is to review and evaluate the design philosophy for electrical installations from an operational and assembly point of view and provide experienced feedback to pertinent teams. The Master Electrician will oversee the pre-fabrication and integration for critical power enclosures to ensure they meet exact specifications and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards before shipment; this is inclusive of monitoring/auditing the Electrical Assembly teams and Quality Inspection personnel at all facilities and stages to provide guidance on installation means and methods. A successful candidate will possess demonstrated proficiency in industrial power distribution systems, design for manufacturability as well as interpersonal skills for team collaboration and mentoring as well as assist in the electrical apprenticeship program.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in ensuring the ongoing integrity of the quality management system (ISO 9001:2015, AISC, NEC, etc.) through internal auditing or as directed.
  • Visit all TAS sites to inspect electrical assembly including wiring, panels, and equipment.
  • Verify compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), local ordinances, and approved specifications.
  • Examine electrical drawings, plans, and specifications before and during assembly.
  • Detect faulty wiring, incorrect materials, or non-compliant assembly.
  • Create nonconformances for violations.
  • Assist in receiving inspection of electrical components to contractual obligations.
  • Assist in training quality personnel to be able to perform basic electrical inspections.
  • Develop procedures and instructions as needed.
  • Prepare details reports, maintain records and document work performed.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide technical guidance TAS personnel.
  • Investigate reports of unpermitted or unsafe electrical work.
  • Be the NCCER Instructor for the electrical apprenticeship program.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by TAS.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verify workmanship quality.
  • Creating technical reports for internal use.
  • Apply sound judgment to resolve complex electrical compliance issues.
  • Taking initiative to attend training and broaden skills in new electrical technologies.
  • Responsible for code compliance
  • Responsible for the administration and implementation of the quality control system.
  • Ensure all final inspections have been obtained prior to project close out.
  • Exercise the authority to halt work on nonconforming work and activities.
  • Any other tasks assigned by TAS Energy.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), attention to detail, problem-solving, and time management
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the installation of industrial electric wiring, instrumentation, VFDs, MCCs, controls control valves in a shop fabrication facility.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in controls wiring
  • Must have a current electrical license registered with the state.
  • Effective working knowledge of industry codes and standards: NEC, IEC, UBC, IBC, ICC, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of industry "best practices" relating to electrical power distribution systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams and wiring diagrams and assist in the checking procedure for the same.
  • Intermediate computer skills (ability to work through spreadsheets and develop documentation)
  • Ability to develop processes and procedures for electrical work
  • Familiarity with various testing practices such as Loop Tests, Point to Point Tests, Function Tests, etc.
  • Must have a good command of the English language, both written and verbal
  • Ability to travel to active non-TAS construction sites for investigation and remediation activities.

JOB SKILLS:

  • Highly Computer literate in all standard business operating software.
  • Ability to analyze complex data with a variety of variables to solve practical problems where only limited standardization exists.
  • High level of ability to influence pertinent departments and collaborate effectively. ees.
  • Provide direct immediate technical support related to quality management processes and philosophies.
  • Ability to produce high quality results using autonomy.
  • Operate and train others to operate common electrical testing equipment (e.g., multimeter, ohmmeter, etc.)
  • Operate and train others to operate common electrical installation tools (e.g., termination crimping, insulation strippers, etc.
  • High Degree of experience in interpreting one-line and electrical assembly drawings with the ability to train others.
  • Experience with analysis of compliance with NEC, IEC, NFPA and other local and international codes.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast paced, often changing environment.
  • Ability to multi-task over several projects and manage conflicting priorities and remain organized.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Industrial HVAC, energy service contracting or central chilled water plant experience
  • Power generation plant experience
  • Experience with large industrial power units, chiller and chiller systems
  • ISO 9001 Trained
  • NEC Trained
  • 2+ years as a licensed Master Electrician

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Master Electrician's License
  • High School Diploma/GED with some specialized training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position is at least 30% to 40% at a desk working with a computer. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading. The incumbent will be subject to inside environmental conditions.
