What is a master data management analyst?

A Master Data Management (MDM) Analyst is a professional responsible for ensuring that an organization's critical data—such as customer, product, supplier, and employee information—is accurate, consistent, and properly maintained across various systems. They analyze, standardize, and manage master data to support business operations and decision-making. MDM Analysts work closely with IT, business stakeholders, and data stewards to create and enforce data governance policies and resolve data quality issues. Their work helps ensure reliable data for reporting, compliance, and operational efficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a master data management analyst?

To thrive as a Master Data Management Analyst, you need a solid understanding of data architecture, data governance, and data quality principles, typically supported by a degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Familiarity with MDM tools such as Informatica, SAP MDG, or Oracle, as well as proficiency in SQL and data integration systems, is commonly required. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for ensuring data accuracy and collaborating with business and IT stakeholders.
