Job Description

Work with a driven and highly motivated team to support the On-Air Operations of NBC Universal, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies. As a Master Control Operator at NBC Universal, you will be responsible for all aspects of maintaining and ensuring the reliability of all NBCU Cable Networks channels including live execution of events for news, entertainment, and sports. Will be required to monitor and recover live networks for all NBCU Cable channels.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform the duties of a live sports master control operator in a fast paced environment, including taking ownership of manipulating commercial playlists, executing program/commercial/marketing changes, managing playlists, sending logs for reconciliation and maintaining the overall reliability and execution of live sports network broadcasts using cutting edge software SNELL Morpheus and Amagi. 
  • Monitor and maintain the continuity and availability for all Networks and distribution channels.
  • Perform control room duties (Technical Director, Commercial Integration, and Associate Director) to support live events.
  • Receive and execute direction of the networks operating.
  • Perform ingest and quality control duties for on-air content airing on sports networks.
  • Work well within a team environment. 
  • Continue to exceed expectations in on-air reliability and customer service for all NOC clientele.
  • Ensure reliability of on-air schedules in a dynamic environment.
  • Act as the last line of defense for internal clients and stations, swiftly responding to any on-air discrepancies with situational awareness and quick decision-making skills.
  • Protect our airwaves by meticulously simulating the viewer experience, constantly checking for proper audio, video, captioning, and picture quality.
  • Collaborate with Operation Supervisors and work as a cohesive team to promptly recover from any on-air discrepancies.
  • Act as a mentor and subject matter expert by contributing and supporting on-going 1:1 peer-to-peer training.
  • Perform all other duties to support the success of the Network Operations Center as assigned by manager and follow company rules and policies
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • A High School Diploma and relevant certification or Associate's Degree in Media or Communications, or equivalent professional experience in broadcast, digital, or post production role.
  • A solid understanding of television production, broadcast operations, and/or news/sports/entertainment technical production requirements.

Desired Characteristics:

  • BA/BS in related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in an On-air broadcast environment with a proven understanding of live "on-air" broadcast operations execution.
  • 2+ years of experience in a live environment, specifically a strong background in executing live sports broadcasts.
  • 2+ years of experience demonstrating an overall understanding & knowledge of the television production process, broadcast operations & news/sports/entertainment technical production requirements.
  • 2+ years of proven knowledge of switchers, routers, communications, ingest and automation systems.
  • 2+ years of experience in ingest and quality control processes.
    Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and pressure situations. Ability to be flexible in approach and respond well to pressure.
  • Proven leadership, high energy level, strong attention to detail and strong team and communication skills.
  • Extensive and significant experience, understanding and knowledge of digital broadcast and production technical systems, standards and processes.
  • Technical experience with automated, real-time systems, digital video and audio troubleshooting and test techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with work rules and scheduling.
