What is a mass tort case?

A mass tort case is a legal action in which many plaintiffs bring claims against one or more defendants for harm caused by the same product, event, or action. Unlike class actions, each plaintiff in a mass tort maintains an individual lawsuit, but the cases are often grouped together for efficiency during pretrial proceedings. Mass torts commonly involve defective products, pharmaceuticals, or environmental disasters. These cases allow individuals to seek compensation while sharing resources and evidence with others affected by the same issue.
