Job description

The Business Development Manager (Commercial) is responsible for driving sales growth, market expansion, and strategic partnerships. This role focuses on promoting commercial solutions to developers, architects, general contractors, and design professionals while positioning the company as a preferred partner in sustainable and innovative building solutions. The position requires strong relationship-building skills, ability to learn technical product knowledge, and the ability document and communicate our commercial work and capabilities to potential new clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales Growth
  • Identify, develop, and secure new commercial mass timber opportunities within the assigned region.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, architects, engineers, general contractors, and key decision-makers.
  • Develop and execute regional sales strategies to meet or exceed revenue and margin targets.
  • Track and manage sales opportunities through CRM platforms and maintain accurate forecasting.

Market Development & Strategic Positioning
  • Create informative content and promote our commercial solutions to developers, architects, engineers, and contractors to generate new business opportunities and strengthen existing long-term relationships
  • Promote mass timber as a sustainable, cost-effective, and innovative construction solution.
  • Educate customers and industry stakeholders on mass timber capabilities, benefits, and applications.
  • Create brand awareness by representing the company at industry events, trade shows, and professional organizations.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and regulatory changes impacting mass timber construction.
  • Collaborate with marketing, preconstruction and operations teams to create engaging and informative, on brand content across platforms including print, email and social.
  • Analyze commercial specific trends and metrics to develop, manage and execute Timberlyne Commercial content strategy.

Project Leadership & Collaboration
  • Collaborate with preconstruction, engineering, estimating, and operations teams to support initial project development questions and information.
  • Assist customers during early design phases by coordinating general technical resources and product samples.
  • Ensure smooth transition of project opportunities from business development to our commercial precon and operations team.

Customer Relationship Management
  • Develop long-term strategic partnerships that drive repeat business and customer loyalty.
  • Provide post-project follow-up to identify additional opportunities and strengthen client relationships.
  • Regional travel required (approximately 30-50%) to support customer engagement, project development, and industry events.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, architects, engineers, general contractors, and key decision-makers.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, marketing, and or communications within construction, engineered wood products, or building materials.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction processes and delivery methods.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for presentations and networking.
  • Strong visual and verbal storytelling skills and the ability to think creatively to engage audiences.
  • Experience with mass timber, CLT, glulam, or engineered wood products preferred.
  • Proven ability to generate and close complex commercial sales opportunities.
  • Proficiency with CRM (Salesforce) systems and sales forecasting tools.
  • Adobe or other graphic and video tools is a plus.
