Job description

Summary: This position is responsible for smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concretes and ensuring the proper arrangement of rubbing cement and other concrete forms. This position may also perform tasks involving physical labor indoors and outdoors, including the movement of material, equipment, and parts between production areas, operating hand/power tools of all types, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, and clean up rubble and debris. May assist other craft workers. This is a field position may require travel to various areas in Guam; hours worked while in travel status could be up to 12 hours per day. There are full-time and part-time positions available! These positions are located in Guam. The pay range for this position is $17.51-$30.00/hour. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)
  • Smoothens and finishes surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to a specified texture.
  • Layout concrete blocks and mix cement using a shovel or cement mixing machine.
  • Studies specifications and blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layouts.
  • Determines dimensions and materials required for a project.
  • Assist and coordinate with other team members to complete tasks on time and within budget.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Tend machines that pump concrete, grout, cement, sand, plaster, or stucco through spray guns for application to ceilings and walls.
  • Molds expansion edges and joints using appropriate construction tools.
  • Build and position forms for pouring concrete and dismantle forms after use using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts.
  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Inspects concrete construction to ensure that it is properly built and can hold the correct amount of cement to finish tasks.
  • Dig ditches/trenches, backfill excavations, and compact/level earth-to-grade specifications using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes.
  • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures.
  • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools and distribute them to the appropriate locations according to project plans/specifications.
  • Mixes, applies and spreads plaster, concrete, mortar, cement, mastic, glue, or another adhesive to form a bed for tiles.
  • Applies coats of plaster to walls, ceilings, or partitions of the building using hand and power tools, including floats, trowels, and screeds.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Cement Mason or a related field
  • Knowledge of construction machines and tools, including their designs, uses, maintenance, and practical application of use
  • Valid Driver's license with the ability to be covered under company vehicle policy and the ability to travel to local facilities
  • Ability to pass background checks by various Federal Agencies (e.g. DOD, DHS, FAA, etc.) to obtain security access badges
  • United States Citizen or Permanent
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical training in masonry or related field
  • OSHA 10 Training Certificate
  • Knowledge and experience with Alaska Native cultures

Physical Demands (including but not limited to):
  • Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment, and other related components.
  • Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, such as small electrical components, equipment, and other materials.
