DESCRIPTION:

As a Purchaser at Lunda Construction, you will have the opportunity to be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and expediting materials needed to support heavy civil construction projects. This role works closely with project managers, superintendents, vendors, and suppliers to ensure cost-effective procurement, timely deliveries, and uninterrupted project operations while maintaining company purchasing policies and budget objectives. This description aligns with common construction purchasing responsibilities identified in enterprise reference materials.

  • Source and procure construction materials and services for heavy civil construction projects.

  • Solicit and evaluate vendor quotes based on pricing, quality, delivery schedules, and supplier performance.

  • Negotiate purchase orders and supply contracts to achieve favorable terms and pricing.

  • Coordinate with project teams to review material requirements, schedules, and procurement needs.

  • Expedite purchases and monitor deliveries to ensure materials arrive on schedule.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and service providers.

  • Resolve invoice discrepancies and coordinate with accounting, vendors, and project personnel on payment issues.

  • Track material costs, delivery schedules, and procurement activities to support project budgets.

  • Maintain procurement records, purchase logs, and supporting documentation.

  • Assist with evaluating new suppliers and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

  • Support project startup activities by securing long-lead items and critical materials.

  • Ensure compliance with company procurement procedures, contract requirements, and safety standards.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience, preferably within heavy civil, infrastructure, mining, utility, transportation, or industrial construction.

  • Strong understanding of construction materials, construction methods and vendor management processes.

  • Experience reviewing vendor quotes, negotiating pricing, and issuing purchase orders.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules.

  • Knowledge of Estimating and Bid Preparation.

  • Ability to review and approve shop drawings.

  • Knowledge of current and future material market trends.

  • Knowledge of procurement best practices, contract terms, and purchasing procedures.

  • Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and purchasing software.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced construction environment.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience supporting heavy civil construction projects such as bridges, tunnels, highways, rail, marine, utilities, or earthwork operations.

  • Knowledge of construction cost codes, budgets, and job costing practices.

  • Experience with Viewpoint, HCSS, Spectrum, JD Edwards, Oracle, SAP, or similar construction management systems.
