What is a marketing startup?

A Marketing Startup job involves developing and executing marketing strategies for a new or emerging company. This role typically includes market research, branding, digital marketing, content creation, and growth hacking to attract customers and drive business expansion. It requires creativity, adaptability, and a data-driven approach to maximize limited resources. Since startups operate in a fast-paced environment, marketers must be willing to experiment and pivot strategies quickly. Effective communication and collaboration with other teams are also crucial for success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a marketing startup?

To thrive at a marketing startup, you need a strong grasp of digital marketing strategies, data analysis, and growth-oriented campaign development, often supported by a degree in marketing or related experience. Familiarity with platforms like Google Analytics, social media advertising tools, and CRM systems is common and can be enhanced by certifications such as Google Ads or HubSpot. Resilience, creativity, and adaptability are crucial soft skills, as is the ability to communicate ideas clearly within small, dynamic teams. These skills are essential for rapidly testing new ideas, efficiently scaling campaigns, and contributing to the startup’s fast-paced growth.

What are some common challenges faced by marketing professionals in a startup environment?

Marketing professionals in startups often encounter challenges such as balancing multiple roles, working with limited resources, and needing to quickly pivot strategies based on evolving business goals. The pace can be fast and priorities may shift rapidly, requiring a high degree of flexibility and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Collaborating closely with product, sales, and leadership teams is typical, so strong communication and teamwork skills are essential. These challenges, however, offer valuable opportunities for rapid skill development and greater ownership over projects compared to larger organizations. If you enjoy creative problem-solving and thrive in dynamic settings, a marketing startup role can be both demanding and highly rewarding.

Job description

Field Marketing

Help launch a new location-based social discovery platform in Orlando.

Dropverse Spatial is an emerging mobile platform that turns real-world locations into interactive digital experiences. Users explore their city to discover location-based Drops containing videos, messages, rewards, experiences, and digital time capsules.

We’re preparing for our early Orlando launch and are looking for motivated college students who want hands-on experience helping bring a new technology product into the market.

This is a volunteer / experience-based opportunity ideal for students interested in marketing, entrepreneurship, startups, technology, social media, event promotion, or community building.

You won’t be sitting behind a desk doing generic intern work. You’ll help us introduce Dropverse Spatial to real people and businesses around Orlando.

What You’ll Help With

  • Recruit early users and Founding Explorers #001–#100
  • Visit local breweries, food trucks, restaurants, events, and other community businesses
  • Introduce business owners to Dropverse Spatial and explain how location-based Drops can drive discovery and engagement
  • Distribute flyers and launch materials
  • Help identify businesses interested in becoming early Dropverse partners
  • Attend local events and help demonstrate the app
  • Help create Drops and test real-world experiences
  • Capture feedback from users and business owners
  • Identify interesting locations and opportunities around Orlando
  • Help generate social media content from launch activities
  • Provide feedback directly to the founding team about what people like, dislike, and find confusing

What You’ll Get

This is an opportunity to participate in the ground-level launch of a real technology startup, rather than working on a hypothetical school project.

Participants can gain practical experience in startup marketing, customer discovery, product launches, field marketing, community growth, business development, and emerging location-based technology.

Strong contributors may also receive a Founding Explorer designation/badge, portfolio/resume experience, professional references based on performance, and consideration for future paid opportunities as Dropverse Spatial grows.

Who We’re Looking For

You may be a good fit if you’re outgoing, dependable, comfortable approaching people and businesses, interested in startups or technology, and excited about helping introduce something new.

Students studying Marketing, Business, Entrepreneurship, Communications, Advertising, Hospitality, Digital Media, Computer Science, or related fields are especially encouraged to apply, but your major is not the deciding factor.

We care more about initiative, communication skills, creativity, reliability, and willingness to get involved.

Location & Schedule

Orlando, Florida

This is primarily a flexible, field-based opportunity. Some activities may take place at local businesses, breweries, food truck events, community events, college areas, and other locations throughout the Orlando area.

Hours can be coordinated around class schedules.

About Dropverse Spatial

Dropverse Spatial combines digital content with physical places. Instead of simply scrolling through content, people go out into the real world to discover it, navigate to it, unlock it, and experience it where it was placed.

We’re currently recruiting the first 100 Founding Explorers in Orlando ahead of the broader public launch.

If you want experience helping take a technology product from startup concept → real users → real businesses → real city launch, we’d like to hear from you.

Apply with a short introduction telling us about yourself, your school/major, your interests, and why working on the launch of Dropverse Spatial sounds interesting to you.
