Job Description

RESPEC is seeking an experienced Project Engineer (Structural) to join our engineering team in either our Brookings, SD or Sioux Falls, SD office. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a range of projects from hospitals, schools, and high-profile commercial buildings across the nation. The structural engineers at RESPEC collaborate across multiple offices. Our highly talented team works on a wide range of projects for a variety of clients.

The Project Engineer will be a part of our growing Structural team. The engineer's structural analysis and design experience will support new construction, structural investigations and rehabilitations/renovations in collaboration with architects and civil, mechanical, electrical, and engineers. Interpreting building codes and standards, preparing structural plans and details, and conducting related construction observations for RESPEC's structural projects-while applying technical knowledge to meet stakeholder expectations-are key aspects of this position. Our ideal candidate enjoys working with a team and diving into new challenges, and will have the following qualifications: 

Qualifications
  • MS in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an accredited institution with a structural emphasis
  • Professional Engineering registration
  • Experience in steel, wood, concrete, and precast/prestressed concrete design
  • Knowledge of construction practices and methods
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of experience in structural engineering
  • RISA, STAAD, SAP, or similar Structural Analysis Software experience.
  • Experience with preparing plans, specifications, and design calculations.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and able to take on new tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Detail oriented and well organized with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Desire to learn and advance in technical skills and understanding.

Additional Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Structural Engineering License (SE)
  • Revit experience
  • Experience with review of structural construction.
  • Experience in community and /or volunteer organizations demonstrating a desired connection to the community
  • Interest in continued professional development

Compensation: Salary depends on experience and expertise. Compensation includes a comprehensive fringe-benefits package. RESPEC is a 100 percent employee-owned company, and employees are eligible for participation in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) after a qualifying period.
