Job description

Job Title: Marine Laborer

Division: Marine Services

Reports to: Team Lead and/or Project Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: Performs variety of general work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships and/or submarines. Tasks will be assigned by Project Manager

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs a variety of general manual labor tasks including, but not limited to, lifting and moving materials, loading and unloading vehicles, surface preparation work, and other activities in a helping or assisting mode;
  • Assists mechanic in simple repairs on machinery
  • Perform housekeeping efforts to maintain cleanliness of the worksite
  • Delivers materials as required
  • Performs duties as Fire Watch
  • Participates in special projects as required.
  • Employee may be required to travel for work to other locations

Qualifications:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Language Ability:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

  • Not Required

Education/Experience:

  • No formal training is needed, however, experience in ship repair is helpful.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed.

Equipment:

  • General Hand Tools

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:

  • Must be able to read and understand material safety data sheets (MDS).
  • Able to follow safety procedures.

Wage Range:  $19.00-$25.00
