An AWARD winning retirement community, Silver Maples is a great place to work! In the past few years Silver Maples of Chelsea Retirement Community has been honored with several national awards for employee and resident engagement. Loyal connected employees provide a vibrant, fulfilling lifestyle for our residents!


Responsible for maintaining clean and sanitary dishware, utensils, and food preparation equipment for a senior living community. This position also assists with unloading deliveries and stocking food and supplies according to established inventory rotation procedures. Additional responsibilities include disposal of waste, general kitchen cleaning and sanitation, assisting with basic food preparation, and delivery and pick-up of trays for residents requesting tray service. The role supports a safe, efficient, and sanitary food service operation in compliance with all health, safety, and infection control regulations.

Available Mon - Friday, 8:30am - 3:00pm and weekends when necessary


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Operate the dishwashing machine to properly wash and sanitize dishes, silverware, glasses, utensils, trays, and food preparation equipment in accordance with sanitation guidelines.
  2. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized dishwashing and kitchen work area, including work tables, sinks, floors, and storage areas.
  3. Dispose of trash and recyclables after each meal period following established policies and procedures.
  4. Assist with receiving deliveries by unloading food, beverages, and supplies; inspect items for accuracy and condition; and transport items to designated storage areas.
  5. Properly store food and supplies following established "first in, first out" (FIFO) inventory rotation procedures for both perishable and non-perishable items.
  6. Utilize proper food handling, cleaning, and ware-washing techniques to support infection control and food safety  standards.
  7. Assist with basic food preparation, portioning, tray assembly, and delivery and pick-up of trays for residents requesting tray service.
  8. Support overall kitchen operations by assisting cooks and other food service staff as needed.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Culinary Services or Dining Room Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must possess basic reading and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  2. General working knowledge of, and ability to safely use, commercial kitchen equipment.
  3. Previous experience working in a kitchen or food service environment where large quantities of food are prepared is preferred.
  4. Ability to perform physical tasks including standing for extended periods, lifting, bending, and pushing carts.

Typical Physical Demands:


1. Standing and/or walking for long periods of time as well as bending and stooping. Able to lift/carry medium weight (up to 50 pounds) and push/pull medium weight (up to 90 pounds).

2. Observe proper body mechanics and safe lifting techniques during all physical tasks, including unloading and stocking supplies.

3. Must be able to tolerate heights over 6 ft. 

4. Must be able to safely work with approved cleaning agents and chemicals used in cleaning and ware-washing procedures, in accordance with safety guidelines and facility policies.
