Job description

Position Overview
Vertiv is seeking a Quality Engineer to own plant-level quality operations and drive operational excellence across its manufacturing facilities. In this role, the Quality Engineer will lead structured root cause analysis, facilitate Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), develop and maintain control plans, and spearhead continuous improvement initiatives designed to ensure top-tier product performance and full regulatory compliance.
The successful candidate will bring extensive hands-on experience in manufacturing quality engineering, with expertise in low- and medium-voltage electrical equipment, and mechanical assemblies. This role demands a proactive, technically proficient professional capable of navigating cross-functional environments and influencing quality-driven outcomes at every level of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Systems & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead structured root cause analysis efforts utilizing 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, and equivalent problem-solving frameworks; ensure the development and implementation of effective Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Oversee internal and external audits of the Vertiv Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance across all manufacturing elements, including receiving inspection and product release transitions.
  • Review and create procedures and train employees in best practices and operating discipline in optimizing process steps and conditions.
  • Work well with other functions in developing support for quality and optimization processes.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor continuous improvement projects to reduce scrap, improve first-pass yield, and enhance overall product reliability in accordance with Vertiv quality objectives.
  • Support new product launches utilizing sound methodology, ensuring quality gates and control deliverables are achieved on schedule.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Serve as the primary quality liaison with Engineering, Service, Manufacturing Operations, Supplier Quality, and Product Management, ensuring alignment on quality standards and improvement priorities.
  • Engage directly with customers to address, investigate, and resolve quality concerns; maintain strong client relationships and ensure satisfaction with Vertiv product quality.
  • Partner with the supply chain and supplier quality organizations to ensure incoming materials meet defined quality specifications; support and lead supplier corrective action initiatives as required.
  • Lead and facilitate cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive systemic quality improvements and eliminate recurring defects across the manufacturing value stream.

Metrics & Reporting
  • Collect, analyze, and present plant-wide quality performance metrics to site and senior leadership, translating data into actionable insights and improvement roadmaps.
  • Track and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) including scrap rate, first-pass yield (FPY), defect trend analysis, and audit findings to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication of quality trends, risk indicators, and continuous improvement opportunities to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Present quality metrics, corrective action status, and improvement initiatives to plant leadership on a regular, structured cadence.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Systems Engineering; or another applicable degree; or a minimum of 5 years of progressive quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (degree strongly preferred).
  • 5+ years of Quality Engineering experience in automotive, industrial manufacturing, or other regulated production environments.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with APQP Core Tools, including PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Flow documentation.
  • 3+ years conducting structured root cause analysis using 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, or equivalent industry-standard frameworks.
  • 2+ years supporting or leading quality audits within a formal Quality Management System (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or equivalent).
  • 2+ years analyzing manufacturing quality metrics, including first-pass yield, defect trends, and scrap data.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing quality-related projects within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Proficiency in quality data analysis tools such as advanced Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or similar statistical analysis platforms.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) or equivalent formal continuous improvement training and demonstrated project application.
  • Experience supporting quality programs, supplier development initiatives, or supplier corrective action processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) requirements and documentation.
  • Proven track record of scrap reduction, continuous improvement leadership, and corrective action closure in a manufacturing context.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence and align cross-functional teams.
