Job description

Silgan Containers is seeking a Production Planner for our manufacturing operations and manufacturing production planning at our Fort Dodge, Iowa, facility. This role is responsible for plant production scheduling, inventory management, materials planning, materials management, demand forecasting, and JIT inventory control in a highvolume manufacturing environment.

The Production Planner reports to the Plant Manager and serves as the primary liaison among corporate planning, interplant departments, other Silgan facilities, and customers, ensuring that production, inventory, and material flow align with corporate forecasts and customer sales requirements.

Manufacturing Environment

  • Structured manufacturing facility operating in a justintime (JIT) inventory control environment

  • Highvolume plant with defined production lines and material flow

  • Frequent coordination across plant operations, corporate planning, supply chain, and shipping/receiving

  • Strong focus on production scheduling accuracy, materials management, inventory control, and forecast alignment

What You'll Do

  • Act as the liaison between corporate planning, interplant departments, other Silgan facilities, and customers regarding production planning, sales forecast analysis, line loading, JIT inventory control, and movement of cans or ends

  • Schedule all plant production and manage inventory and materials management processes to meet corporate planning forecasts and customer sales requirements

  • Plan and order raw materials, including metal, coating, stripe, copper wire, chemicals, inside spray, wash coat, dunnage, and other required materials to meet production needs

  • Prepare production planning reports and spreadsheets, including weekly, rolling 12week, and monthly forecasts, line loading, final monthly estimates of sales, production, inventory, and work orders

  • Develop and issue daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules

  • Assist the Office Manager with budget preparation, forecasting, new item costing, monthly statements, and monthly inventory processes

  • Supervise the Shipping/Receiving Coordinator to assist with accurate material movement

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or GED

  • 5 years of experience in production planning, manufacturing production planning, or plant production scheduling

  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing equipment operations and material flow through a plant environment

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Understanding of raw material identification, finished goods, and customerspecific products

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access

  • Working knowledge of forecasting principles and production planning models

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent timemanagement and prioritization abilities

  • Solid mathematical skills
