General Manager - Wood Manufacturing Operations

Greater Scranton Area, PA

$175,000–$250,00, Base Salary + Performance Bonus

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to lead and grow a well-established custom wood products manufacturer with a strong reputation, loyal customers, and significant capacity for growth.

The business has a solid operational foundation but is ready for its next stage. We are looking for a hands-on General Manager who can bring together operations, sales, finance, and people into one accountable, high-performing organization.

You will operate as the business leader, taking ownership of profitability, operational performance, commercial growth, and team development. This role requires someone equally comfortable reviewing financial results, meeting with customers, coaching leaders, and walking the production floor to remove obstacles and improve execution.

Success will be measured by your ability to build a stronger, more profitable, and more scalable business.

What You'll Own

Business Leadership

  • Lead the business as a single operating unit, aligning sales, production, finance, purchasing, and administration around shared priorities.

  • Develop and execute the strategic growth plan while protecting profitability, quality, and customer commitments.

  • Establish a culture of ownership, accountability, urgency, and continuous improvement.

  • Provide executive leadership with clear visibility into business performance, opportunities, risks, and action plans.

Operations & Manufacturing

  • Own overall manufacturing performance through the production leadership team.

  • Improve throughput, labor productivity, quality, material flow, and operational efficiency.

  • Eliminate bottlenecks and strengthen production planning to maximize existing capacity.

  • Ensure equipment, facilities, inventory, and maintenance support reliable production.

  • Build KPI-driven operating rhythms that improve visibility, accountability, and execution.

Commercial Growth

  • Own revenue growth and overall business performance.

  • Lead and develop the sales function through pipeline management, forecasting, customer accountability, and market strategy.

  • Strengthen relationships with key customers while identifying opportunities to expand business.

  • Align sales commitments with manufacturing capacity to ensure profitable, reliable execution.

  • Evaluate new products, markets, and business opportunities that support sustainable growth.

Financial Performance

  • Own the operational performance behind the P&L.

  • Improve profitability through stronger labor utilization, cost control, pricing discipline, inventory management, and operational efficiency.

  • Partner closely with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and business planning.

  • Use financial and operational metrics to drive informed business decisions.

Leadership & Culture

  • Build and develop a high-performing leadership team.

  • Coach managers while holding them accountable for measurable business results.

  • Create clear operating rhythms, scorecards, and follow-up processes.

  • Recruit, develop, and retain strong talent capable of supporting future growth.

  • Foster a culture where accountability, communication, safety, quality, and execution are non-negotiable.

Success in This Role

Within the first 12–18 months, you will have:

  • Increased profitable revenue while improving plant utilization.

  • Improved throughput, labor productivity, and operational efficiency.

  • Built a more predictable sales pipeline and forecasting process.

  • Improved visibility into KPIs, including revenue, margin, labor efficiency, quality, inventory, and on-time delivery.

  • Developed stronger accountability across sales, production, and administrative leadership.

  • Reduced operational bottlenecks while improving customer delivery performance.

  • Strengthened profitability through disciplined operational and financial management.

  • Built a leadership culture focused on ownership, execution, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading a manufacturing business with full operational accountability.

  • Demonstrated ownership of business performance, including revenue growth, profitability, and operational execution.

  • Experience leading manufacturing operations, production planning, quality, supply chain, and customer delivery.

  • Experience managing or partnering closely with sales to drive commercial growth.

  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, KPIs, cost control, and P&L performance.

  • Proven success improving throughput, productivity, labor utilization, and operational efficiency.

  • Experience building teams, developing leaders, and creating accountability within a manufacturing environment.

  • Hands-on leadership style with credibility on the production floor and confidence in the boardroom.

Preferred Experience

  • Cabinetry, millwork, furniture, architectural wood products, doors, windows, or other custom wood manufacturing.

  • Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or Operational Excellence.

  • Founder-led, family-owned, or entrepreneurial manufacturing businesses.

  • Made-to-order or high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments.

Who Will Thrive Here

This role is designed for a business builder.

Someone who enjoys creating structure, solving operational problems, developing people, and growing a manufacturing business.

Someone who naturally moves between the production floor, customer meetings, financial reviews, and strategic planning without losing focus on execution.

If you measure success by building stronger teams, improving performance, and delivering profitable growth, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact.
